Westway Feed Products, has been a presence at the Port of Albany -- starting as the Industrial Molasses Company, a family-owned business -- since the 1940s. Westway manufactures and sells liquid feed supplements for cattle, feed mill products, dried molasses, etc., and relies on inbound rail tank cars to deliver high-volume liquid ingredients directly to the facility. in 2013, the Albany Fire Department Albany Fire Department christened its first-ever fireboat. The Marine 1, docked at the Port of Albany, is used for emergencies on the Hudson River. The ship can douse flames with a 1,500-gallons-a-minute water cannon and hold up to 14 people during a rescue. Funded by a Port Security grant, the vessel responded to a distress call within hours of being in the water and towed a disabled yacht to safety.
