Why the Selene S3 Promise Is So Important

Selene President Wayne Goldman discusses the meaning of the Selene Americas S3 Promise: To us, "Safety", "Style" and "Support" aren't a wish list or a marketing ploy, but three parts of a sincere promise to build the best bluewater boats possible, and to support Selene adventurers wherever their trawlers take them. Whether your style is the classic trawler look, a more open European-style yacht, or just the ability to craft a trawler yacht that perfectly matches your lifestyle, Selene has the bluewater boat you're looking for.

Talking Tidal Rapids with Selene Captain Mark Tilden

Long-time Selene Trawler captain and community legend Mark Tilden discusses the risks and rewards of navigating the tidal rapids of the Pacific Northwest, which includes Southeast Alaska and British Columbia. As a regular explorer of the large tide swings and rapid currents of the famous 'Inner Passage' in his Selene 60 Classic Explorer, Mark shares how he uses tools like TimeZero to identify slack tides and safely navigate what could otherwise be treacherous waters.

Mark also touches on how many of these narrows are well worth navigating, as they hide some of the world's most beautiful scenery (Prince Louisa Sound being a prime example). Subscribe to our YouTube channel for easy access to more trawler advice and adventures.

Have you seen our newest model? Introducing the Selene 52 Ocean Explorer as mentioned in this July/August issue of Passagemaker Magazine

Inspired by feedback from the Selene owner community and blue water adventurers like the YouTube duo The 71 Percent, the new Selene 52 Ocean Explorer is the perfect marriage of capability and style.

As part of the Ocean Explorer series, this 52-foot vessel features a more open layout, larger windows and sleeker exterior lines than a comparable Selene Classic Explorer. However, beyond the contemporary look, the Ocean Explorer maintains the performance and safety trademarks of every Selene. This includes a powerful raised pilothouse, a Portuguese bridge, and a seaworthy Class A Deep Hull designed for long-range yachting.

Selene S3 Promise: What is Safety to Selene?

Selene Technical Director Dylan Hildebrand discusses what "Safety" means to Selene. Even when a crew is fatigued, a boat's strong build, ease of use and redundant systems should ensure safety. This is the cornerstone of every Selene build, and part of our Selene S3 Promise.

Style is more than appearance—it's about creating a yacht that reflects the way you want to cruise.

Selene Co-founder Paul Cifka discusses what "Style" means to Selene and why it is so important to the Selene Americas S3 Promise. Style is personal. It's choosing a boat that fits the way you want to cruise, explore, entertain, and live on the water.

Some owners love the timeless lines of a classic trawler. Others prefer the open feel and modern look of an ocean trawler. And for many, it's about creating a yacht that reflects their own unique lifestyle.

In this video, Paul shares why "Style" is such an important part of the Selene Americas S3 Promise—and how Selene helps owners find the boat that feels just right for them.

First Time Docking a Boat... and It's a 60-Foot Trawler!

At the Selene West Coast Owners' Rendezvous in April, special guest Arina Chen of Selene Yachts took the helm of Selene 60 Ocean Explorer Grato and docked a boat for the very first time.

In this video, Selene Americas Technical Director Dylan Hildebrand guides Arina through the pre-departure checks, startup procedures, and docking process. With Dylan's expert instruction, Arina learns the proper system checks—including the gear shifter, thrusters, and steering—before heading out for a cruise around beautiful Roche Harbor, Washington.

Along the way, she discovers just how manageable a 60+ foot trawler yacht can be, and demonstrates the techniques used to confidently maneuver and dock the vessel. Be sure to stay until the end to hear Arina's impressions after docking a boat for the first time.

Topics covered in this video include:
• How steering and stopping a boat differs from driving a car
• How tightly large trawlers can turn
• The importance of visibility from the flybridge
• Pre-departure system checks and safety procedures
• Using bow and stern thrusters for maneuvering and docking
• The proper way to secure a line to a dock cleat
