Photographers' Milky Way season is here. A shot I took a thousand times, but still one of the most photogenic locations to capture the galaxy rising over the mountains in Arizona.

Yesterday was a great day – if you were a bee, a photographer, or both. The palo verdes are in full bloom across the Phoenix area and buzzing with bees (check the short video – the sound is loud). Add a fiery Arizona sunset. What else do you need?

I’ve hiked to Fossil Creek Dam in Arizona several times, but had never made it to the falls a few miles downstream. Last weekend, I finally took the 15-mile washboard road to the trailhead and arrived just before sunset. I got a few shots, but I’ll definitely be back to spend more time along the creek photographing the many pools and small falls.

The first time I hiked Boynton Canyon in Sedona was almost 20 years ago. I did the full canyon hike and, even though the end of the trail wasn’t that impressive, being surrounded by those red cliffs made it a great experience.

I’ve been back countless times since, and over the years I’ve learned that the views from the canyon floor only scratch the surface. Above you are cliff dwellings, alcoves, and ledges that most people never notice — even after multiple visits.

I took these shots on a recent hike into a side canyon of Boynton, climbing higher toward the rim, where the views open up across the main canyon. Some of the cliff dwellings are technically visible from below, but unless you know exactly where to look, you’ll never see them.

Tonight's Wolf Moon rising over a stand of healthy saguaros in the Superstition Wilderness. Happy to see nature coming back to life after the recent rains in Arizona.
