Vessels manufactured after 1972 have a Hull Identification Number which is the 12 or 17 digit serial number of the vessel. This number is usually located on the upper right portion of the vessel's transom. The number indicates the boat manufacturer, its serial number, and the month and year of production. It is used to register the boat, to identify an individual boat and can help locate your boat if stolen.
