‼️ATTENTION HELICOPTER PILOTS AND COMPANIES‼️

The Virginia Highlands Airport (Virginia Highlands Airport - KVJI) will be closed Sunday July 5th through Wednesday August 5th for our runway (06-24) rehabilitation and Airfield Lighting Upgrade projects. We will continue to be staffed to accommodate all rotorcraft traffic. Fuel discounts, hot fuels, crew cars and top notch service will continue to be available to all rotorcraft during the closure. Here we have the Washington County, Johnson County Tennessee animal shelter partnering with Pilots to the Rescue and their Kodiak Aircraft. The mission is to take 24 rescue dogs and cats to their furever homes! We are proud to have been a part of this mission!

The Virginia Highlands Airport is proud to have been the base of operations for this mission

The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Virginia Department of Health dropped nearly 600,000 oral rabies vaccine baits from helicopters and other aircraft into rural areas of Smyth, Russell, and Washington counties, and the City of Bristol and City of Abingdon.

For anyone near South Holston Lake

Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department would like to let the community know that if you are out around South Holston Lake today, you may notice a helicopter flying at low altitude throughout the area. These flights are being conducted by Fire Chief B. Nunley and Lieutenant B. Wise as part of testing and evaluation for our department’s new aerial response program.

This new program is designed to explore additional ways to support emergency operations, improve rapid access to remote areas, and enhance our ability to serve the citizens of our community and surrounding lake areas. During these test flights, personnel will be evaluating visibility, response capabilities, and access points around South Holston Lake and nearby terrain.

We ask the public not to be alarmed if you see or hear the aircraft operating in the area, as these flights are strictly part of planned departmental testing and program development.

As always, we appreciate the continued support from our community and all those who stand behind Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department as we continue looking for innovative ways to better serve and protect our area.
