Sad day!
The Standard Gauge Railway Project Uganda speaks with profound honour and gratitude to your memory, Engineer Capt Evans Mugisha.
Until your passing on this morning (July 15, 2021), you continued to serve the Standard Gauge Railway project with great committment and dedication as Area Manager in-charge of Butaleja and previously Iganga where you oversaw land acquisition to near completion in that area. For the past five years, despite all the challenges that this great and transformational project faced, you never wavered...always cool headed, focused and leading your team through various milestones and challenges.
Today you have moved on- onwards to greater glory.
We salute your service sir, to your country and we promise to push on...
RIP gallant soldier!

Our operations remain open but with limited human contact. Incase of any help, Project Affected Persons are advised to call or use all other available communication channels to limit contact and exposure.
Just to remind you that we have finished re-assessment of Jinja and Buikwe and reports are being finalized for onward submission to the CGV for approval. Then compensation can commence funds allowing.
We thank you for your continued support and patience as we push to build this transformative railway, despite the many challenges. Aluta Continua!

. A group of SGR project affected persons- fish pond owners' valuation report has been approved by the chief government valuer. Disclosure is currently ongoing from Tororo to Kampala in preparation for payment. To explain a little more, the assessment of fish pond owners was done jointly with the help of technical people from Min. of Agric. Partly this is why it took this long. We reassure all PAPs that efforts are being made to compensate all affected people. And now we hope to move beyond the Jinja bridge even as we mop up payments in areas like Iganga and Mayuge.

The SGR Project Coordinator today announced that government of Uganda thru SGR will compensate 420 project affected people in Tororo, Namutumba, Iganga and Mayuge. “The decision to spend sh10 billion in compensation to 420 people is a massive effort by government despite the underlying challenges and current economic squeeze occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic,” noted Engineer Canon Perez Wamburu, the SGR project coordinator during a media round-table at the SGR head office in Kampala alongside his deputy project coordinator- Miriam Tumukunde. Currently, re-assessment and re-valuation of land between Jinja and Kampala is ongoing in preparation for compensation. As a project, the SGR is honoured to share this positive news. We appreciate the continued patience by all the project affected people and we ask for your continued support as we push to make the railway a reality.

project coordinator Mr. Perez Wamburu giving an update on the project to Julius Barigaba, East African Newspaper senior staff over this past weekend.

Government of Uganda is currently answering the 3 main questions from the EXIM Bank regarding the loan application. These are:

1- Loan Repayment

2- Operations of the railway

3- Connectivity with Kenya

Please remember that EXIM Bank had initially presented about 21 conditions for the loan request from Uganda. As a project and a country, we remain hopeful that despite the long wait, we will accomplish and build this transformational project, challenges notwithstanding!

As a project, we have been engaging top district leaders, LC1 chairpersons, Project Affected Persons updating them about developments around the project as well as on land acquisition. Key among them are efforts around loan negotiations, and the quarterly compensation we have been undertaking. Focus districts are Jinja to Kampala- areas where we are yet to have fully approved valuation rates. This exercise will resume after the current Corvid-19 lock down is over. For now we are following the directive on limiting large gatherings. Slowly but surely, we continue to push the agenda of building a modern railway for our country, challenges not withstanding.
