I'm really saddened by the passing of our Captain Stanslaus Okwalinga. He was our senior colleague, a friend, a Manager, a commander and a Papa. He rested on 26th December and was buried yesterday 28th December 2015.

He was an extraordinary man. There are many worldwide who will mourn deeply his passing as his was a life of service, love, compassion and excellence.

I was lucky to have met Captain Okwalinga in 2012 when I interviewed him and recruited him then as a Chief mate (2nd in command) on our first ferry MV Amani. We connected so easily and intensely too. He proved himself as a loyal, committed and experienced sailor who indeed within a year become the Senior Captain of the vessel. I have happy memories of spending time with him back then and together with the other colleagues have learnt a lot from him and will miss him dearly as a mentor and teacher.

The last three weeks have been very heavy for me as well with so much happening in the business and yet my friend was laying in hospital and needing rest so much that I would not consult him on marine issues the way I usually did. We were fortunate to still be involved in his last days when he was in hospital both financially, emotionally and spiritually. He was a very strong man and I was certain he would bounce back from his ailment and I always told him that whenever we talked. But God had other plans for him and chose to call him back at this time. He is the creator and cannot be questioned.

Not only has EarthWise Ferries Uganda lost a sailor of his caliber, but also Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania too as his experience benefited greatly all these countries sharing the Lake Victoria especially. His is a gap so difficult to replace.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories of Chief Okwa as he was commonly known help us cope. May our hearts always be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Remembering and praying especially for the immediate family at this time of loss and always.

May our Captain, Commander, Friend and Papa rest in eternal peace.

For God and My Country.

Allan Emejeit,
On behalf of the Directors, Management and Staff - EarthWise Ferries Uganda.
