Rapidly changing/ deteriorating Covid-19 situation yesterday saw the announcement of Ukraine airport’s closures and my flight being cancelled. I had lots of fabulous help yesterday getting sorted which resulted in me going to Ternopil Train Station at 1am Where I jumped on an overnight sleeper train to Kiev. A quick breath in Kiev and a train to Kiev airport to get a KLM flight to Amsterdam, a day early and the wrong destination. Then I am doing a short hop to LHR. Then to Luton to pick up my car 😂
Not how I had wanted to leave Ukraine. But it does mean I’ll get home before April.

Stunning walk around Ternopil this morning. Sun shining in a deep blue sky, 1 degree. Lots to see. Beautiful Churches, monuments, castle, lake, cobbled streets, trams. Modern and old architecture. And lots of very serious Ukrainian people.

I’m not a train spotter, but couldn’t resist these in Lviv Train Station and in the sleeper train. A two hour 20 minute journey, left on time and arrived on time. I had a bed with fresh sheets, pillows and blankets, a wash room and self service tea and coffee.
Managed to sit in the wrong sleeper compartment until 3 Ukrainian Soldiers corrected me and very politely escorted me out and deliver me to the correct compartment.
I had a flurry of snow flakes at the station, as well as blazing sun and cold winds.
So pleased I made it here despite the odds and Covid-19!

End of an amazing day of travel, adventure, hospitality and friendship. Lovely to meet Igor, Iryna, Roman and their families. Fabulous Ukrainian hospitality, delicious home made food and a few shots of Vodka.
Wouldn’t have been possible without the excellent translation skills of Mykola Kaminskyi!
