Christmas Eve 2025 - a helicopter tragically crashed on Mount Kilimanjaro, near the Barafu Valley, in what climbers have described in real-time reports as a sudden and devastating event. The helicopter reportedly burst into flames on impact.

Initial on-site accounts from climbers and guides suggest that all five people on board — including the pilot, a paramedic, 2 Czech tourists and a Guide — have all died at the scene, though official confirmation is still pending as rescue and investigation teams move toward the area to verify details and secure the site.

This mountain, Africa’s highest and a dream for many adventurers, has long been a place of both beauty and unforgiving conditions. Today’s loss is felt deeply by the climbing community and by those who know and love this iconic peak. As we await formal statements from local authorities, our thoughts are with the families, friends, and fellow climbers affected by this heartbreaking news — a stark reminder of how precious life is and how swiftly tragedy can strike even in places of awe-inspiring wonder.

Tanzania residents fear the worst

It was a chaotic scene, with shopping carts and foot traffic filling every aisle as Dar es Salaam residents continued to flock to major stores to buy essential supplies ahead of December 9.

Although the Tanzania Police Force has issued a statement prohibiting the planned December 9 demonstrations, many residents remain cautious and are preparing for any eventuality.

At Mlimani City’s Shoppers supermarket, the store was crowded with families stocking up on food, water, and other essential items.
