Mawenzi B&B

Mawenzi B&B Bed & breakfast in Moshi, Tanzania. Experience life in a Tanzanian home, in your own private room. We have 2 rooms with private bathroom available for guests.

Opening July 2021! Brand of Karibu, welcome! We are Lili and Chim, owners of Mawenzi B&B and we can't wait to welcome you. Mawenzi B&B is located in a quiet part of Moshi at about 30 km from Mount Kilimanjaro and less than 3 km from Moshi town and offers 2 guest rooms. You can get views of Kilimanjaro right in front of the main gate. The property has a private main house, where

we live, and a separate area for guests around a courtyard in the back. You can come and go freely and use the courtyard and terraces. Our offices are located around the same courtyard, but we promise we won't bother you unless you want to! Our goal is to make you feel at home by offering cozy rooms in a real-life Tanzanian home and a personal welcome and service. Both our rooms have private bathrooms, located either inside or outside the room. Breakfast is included and you can chose from different options. We can arrange several other services for you, such as transport to the airport and to town or safaris, mountain climbs or day trips that we'll personally organize for you through our tour company. Or how about a local cooking or paint class? We also invite you to our on-site shop, where we sell handmade items in local fabrics.

Welcome to our reception area / tour desk! On work days, you'll usually find us either here or in our sewing workshop just a few doors further down the court yard, as organizing tours and making kitenge handbags are our two main activities. So if you need us, don't hesitate to just walk right in, we're here to help!

A drive through a sugar cane plantation might not be the first thing you put on your must-see-while-in-Tanzania list, but what if we told you it looks like this, and on top of that you can see Kilimanjaro through the trees on clear days? There's a beautiful restaurant in the middle of the plantation where plenty of monkeys often just walk around, so you can have lunch there before you head back to Moshi. So let us know if you have a few hours to spare (or a day in case you want to do it by bike) and we'll organize it for you!

Kitchen renovation: check ✅ We don't have a kitchen for guests to prepare their own meals but of course we won't send you off on your trip with an empty stomach! We don't want to prepare your breakfast in a shabby kitchen, so repaired everything that had to be repaired and added some extra storage space and a fresh layer of paint for a more modern look. We love it ❤

If you ask us for a list of amazing things to see in Moshi town, we’ll probably have to disappoint you. There’s no architectural treasures or perfectly maintained parks. No shopping malls or hip restaurants for a fancy dinner. But there’s a vibe. A laid-back atmosphere that we can’t quite manage to define. Streets full of people, lively markets and bars playing reggae music all day long. Coffee plantations, waterfalls and little local villages just 30 minutes out of town. Unexpected encounters whilst driving along bumpy roads, and views out of a dream.

Nope, there’s not much to see in Moshi… but there’s a thousand things to experience, and we can't wait to share a few of them with you!

Pictured is the road to the sugar cane plantation at TPC. You'll drive through here if you go to the Kikuletwa hotsprings with us (more about this soon!) or if you head to the TPC club restaurant for a relaxing lunch or dinner (+- 45 min from Moshi). If you're lucky, you might see plenty of monkeys and on the way home you can even spot Kilimanjaro in between the trees when the sky is clear.

We're busy designing our outside space and will start building soon, but one thing is already sure: there will be cozy spots, lots of green and even some good stuff for you to taste! We'll have fresh home-grown avocados (avocado toast anyone?!?) and mangos, basil to make jummy tomato-basil omelets, shives to bring our homemade egg salad toast to the next level and mint and lemongrass to make delicious teas. We don't know about you, but our mouths are for sure already starting to water 😋

We have views of Kilimanjaro right in front of our gate and all around our neighborhood. Your best chance of seeing her is early in the morning or around sunset, so don't hesitate to go for a walk to check her out!

Breakfast is served! We're trying out some breakfast options and would love your input! For sure we'll have coffee, tea, milk, juice, fresh fruits (pictured: only pineapple but don't worry, we won't stop there!) and yoghurt and you'll get a choice of eggs with toast, french toast or crepes. Or if you'd rather have some local chapati or mandazi, we can arrange that for you too! What else do you like for breakfast? Let us know in the comments!
