盧經堂(1858~1926)清領末期時因英法聯軍戰敗，安平開放為通商口岸後，盧經堂得地利之先，代理英商煤油公司，進口蠟燭、煤油；並在日據時期開設『豐源』商號。 1902年，日本人同意台灣人成立會社，盧經堂於善化設立『台南維新製糖合股會社』，生產黑糖，銷售至南洋及廈門，而以富有而稱盛於當世。
本棟古厝於2003年5月由台南市政府正式指定為市定古蹟。為推估興建於西元1898年，原為三落大厝，結合閩式傳統建築與南洋建築風格之元素；現存古厝台南市文化局經修復後，2015年委外經營。
Lu Jing-Tang (1858–1926) was a prominent entrepreneur in Tainan during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Japanese colonial period. After Anping was opened as a treaty port following the Second O***m War, Lu took advantage of its strategic location by serving as an agent for a British kerosene company, importing kerosene, candles, and other goods. During the Japanese colonial era, he also established the Fengyuan Trading House, further expanding his business success.
In 1902, when the Japanese colonial government permitted Taiwanese people to establish corporations, Lu founded the Tainan Weixin Sugar Joint-Stock Company in Shanhua. The company specialized in producing brown sugar, which was exported to Southeast Asia and Xiamen, earning Lu a reputation as one of the wealthiest and most influential businessmen of his time.
The Lu Jing-Tang Historic Residence is believed to have been built in 1898. Originally designed as a traditional three-section courtyard house, it combines Southern Fujian (Minnan) architectural traditions with elements of Southeast Asian architecture, reflecting the cultural influences brought by overseas trade. In May 2003, the residence was officially designated as a Tainan City Historic Monument. After restoration by the Tainan City Bureau of Cultural Affairs, it has been operated by a private organization since 2015, serving as an important site for cultural preservation, public education, and heritage tourism.
