At St. Dominic’s Children’s Home, we believe that every child has gifts, talents and abilities that deserve to be recognised, celebrated and nurtured.
The first principle of the STEPERS Model challenges us to focus on what is strong, rather than what is wrong. It encourages us to identify strengths, acknowledge successes and build upon the positive qualities that already exist within each child, family and community.
Every child deserves to be seen not through the lens of their challenges, but through the lens of their potential.

At St. Dominic’s Children’s Home, our care is guided by the STEPERS Model, a holistic framework that places the wellbeing, dignity and future of every child at the centre of all we do.

The seven principles of the STEPERS Model are:

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝
Recognising and building upon each child’s unique talents, abilities and potential.
𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲
Understanding the impact of trauma and responding with compassion, empathy and care.
𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝
Using proven practices and approaches that support positive outcomes for children and families.
𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲
Helping children build lasting connections, relationships and a sense of belonging.
𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧-𝐢𝐧-𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭)
Recognising that every child is shaped by their family, community, culture and environment.
𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝
Respecting and upholding the rights, dignity and voice of every child.
𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲
Nurturing faith, values, purpose and hope as part of holistic development.
The 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 reminds us that caring for children is about more than meeting immediate needs. It is about creating opportunities for healing, growth and transformation so that every child can thrive and reach their full potential.

Together, we are building stronger children, stronger families and stronger communities.

St. Dominic’s Children’s Home was honoured to welcome representatives of the Canadian High Commission and The Samaritan Movement for a meaningful afternoon of cultural exchange, dialogue and community engagement through the Horizons Programme.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration, healing and trauma-informed care, values that closely align with the work we continue to do at SDCH through the STEPPERS Model and our commitment to holistic child development.

We were especially proud of the beautiful performance by our FACTA Band, whose music brought energy, joy and Caribbean spirit to the gathering.

The Samaritan Movement’s mission of listening, healing and empowering communities reminds us that true transformation happens when we work together to create safe, supportive and nurturing environments for children and families.

Thank you to The Samaritan Movement, High Commission of Canada in Trinidad and Tobago, Belmont Pastoral Centre and all who contributed to this special experience. 💙

We were honoured to welcome the Canadian High Commission to St. Dominic’s Children’s Home as part of the Horizons Programme, in collaboration with The Samaritan Movement.
The afternoon was filled with joy and the sweet sounds of pan as our children proudly shared their talents.
Partnerships like these remind us of the importance of community, exposure and positive engagement in helping our children grow in confidence and possibility.
Thank you to the Canadian High Commission and The Samaritan Movement for spending this special time with us and for supporting experiences that enrich the lives of our children.

At St. Dominic’s Children’s Home, we believe that nurturing the spirit is just as important as nurturing the mind and body. As part of the STEPERS Model, the final “S” reminds us of the importance of Spirituality in helping to build strong, grounded and hope-filled lives.

We are proud to share moments from the recent Sacrament of Confirmation of some of our children, a meaningful milestone in their faith journey and personal growth. Through prayer, guidance and community, we continue to support our children in developing values, purpose and a sense of belonging.

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen them as they grow into confident and compassionate young people.

We unite with our Dominican family and wider community in giving thanks for the life of Sr. Monique Moniquette OP, a devoted Dominican Sister, educator, mentor and cherished friend.

Through her quiet strength, faith and service, she touched countless lives and embodied the compassion and dedication that continue to inspire so many within our communities today.

We pray that she now rests in the eternal peace of Christ whom she served so faithfully throughout her life.

Please keep the Dominican Sisters, her family, former students, friends and all who mourn her passing in your prayers. ✨🤍

In an era of "noise and echo chambers," how do we find a path toward true community?

We are excited to share an inspiring reflection by Sr. Carla Thomas, O.P., member of Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena of Etrepagny, on the enduring legacy of St. Catherine of Siena - available on our website!

𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭. 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐚

On this day, we honour St. Catherine of Siena, a woman of courage, conviction and deep faith, who spoke truth without fear and dedicated her life to healing, reconciliation and service.

St. Catherine did not remain silent in the face of injustice. She stood boldly for what was right, guided by love and a profound sense of responsibility for the wellbeing of others.

At St. Dominic’s Children’s Home, her legacy lives on in the work we do each day. To safeguard, to protect, and to nurture the children entrusted to our care is not simply a duty, it is a calling rooted in truth, compassion and unwavering commitment.

In a world where children are often the most vulnerable, we are reminded that like St. Catherine, we are called to act. We create safe spaces, restore dignity, and to walk with courage in the service of others.

May her example continue to inspire us to be bold in love, steadfast in purpose, and faithful in our mission to build a future where every child is protected, valued and given the opportunity to thrive.
