The best itinerary isn't the one that fits in the most. It's the one that works.

After planning trips and travelling to 55+ countries, I've noticed the same mistakes again and again.

❌ Choosing the cheapest hotel instead of the best location.

❌ Planning every minute of every day.

❌ Booking flights before researching the destination.

❌ Forgetting to plan for delays, weather or sold out attractions.

❌ Trying to see everything instead of experiencing somewhere properly.

A well-planned trip doesn't feel rushed.
It feels effortless.

That's why good travel planning is about more than finding cheap flights.

It's about creating a vacation you'll actually enjoy.

After visiting 55+ countries, these are still the travel apps I open on almost every trip. 🌍✈️

None of these are sponsored.

They've simply saved me time, money, and stress over and over again.

Here's what's always on my phone:

✈️ Google Flights, compare flight prices before you book.

🏨 Booking.com & Agoda, compare hotels instead of relying on one website.

πŸ“ Google Maps, save places before your trip and download offline maps.

πŸ“Ά Airalo, affordable eSIMs in 190+ countries.

πŸ—£οΈ Google Translate, especially with the camera feature for menus and signs.

🎟️ Viator, Klook & GetYourGuide, book tours and attractions before they sell out.

πŸš— Uber, Grab, Bolt, Lyft & DiDi, because not every country uses Uber.

πŸ“… TripIt, keeps all your flights, hotels and bookings in one place.

These aren't the only travel apps out there.

They're simply the ones I've found myself using again and again after years of traveling.

One of the easiest ways to make international travel less stressful? Download the right ride-share app before you leave home.

One of the biggest travel mistakes I see is people assuming Uber works everywhere.
It doesn't.

Here's what I recommend after travelling to 55+ countries:

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ USA & Canada β†’ Uber
πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί Europe β†’ Uber + Bolt
🌍 Africa β†’ Bolt + Uber
🌏 Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam & Indonesia β†’ Grab
πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China β†’ DiDi
πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Australia & New Zealand β†’ Uber (with DiDi available in many Australian cities)

These travel apps make travelling so much easier because you can:
βœ”οΈ Enter your destination without speaking the local language.
βœ”οΈ See the fare before you book.
βœ”οΈ Pay through the app.
βœ”οΈ Avoid negotiating taxi prices.
βœ”οΈ Feel more confident when you land in a new country.

πŸ’‘ Travel Planner Tip: Download the app and add your payment card before you leave home. You'll be ready to book a ride the moment you land.

Save this post for your next international trip, you'll thank yourself later!

Travel Planner Secret...
One of the biggest travel myths is that using a VPN will always unlock cheaper flights.

The truth?

In most cases, airlines adjust prices based on demand, seat availability, fare rules and booking timing, not simply because you're searching from another country.

That doesn't mean you'll never see a different priceβ€”but if you're relying on a free VPN as your main money-saving strategy, you're probably missing the things that make a much bigger difference.

As a travel planner, I spend far more time looking at:
βœ… Flexible travel dates
βœ… Nearby airports
βœ… Flight alerts
βœ… Fare sales
βœ… Total trip costβ€”not just the ticket price

Those strategies consistently save travellers more money than chasing VPN myths.

Have you ever tried using a VPN to search for cheaper flights? Did it actually save you money?

Africa isn't one destination, it's an entire continent filled with completely different experiences.

After visiting 7 African countries, here's what I'd recommend each one for:

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬ Egypt – Ancient history and iconic landmarks.
πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ Kenya – Incredible safaris and unforgettable wildlife encounters.
πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Ώ Tanzania – Stunning Serengeti & beaches
πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ South Africa – The perfect introduction to Africa with wildlife, cities, wine and coastline.
πŸ‡²πŸ‡¦ Morocco – Vibrant souks, rich culture and beautiful architecture.
πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡² Zambia – Adventure, nature and a different perspective of Victoria Falls.
πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό Zimbabwe – One of the most unforgettable bucket-list experiences I've ever had, including a microlight flight over Victoria Falls.

Every country surprised me in a different way and that's exactly why I never think of Africa as one destination.

Instagram didn't lie… it just didn't show the whole story.

After travelling to 55+ countries, I've learned that some of the most iconic travel photos leave out what happens just before or just outside the frame.

πŸ“ Kanto Lampo Falls, Bali
Instagram shows the perfect waterfall photo. It doesn't always show the queue of people waiting for their turn.

πŸ“ The Sphinx, Egypt
That classic "kissing the Sphinx" photo? It takes a little patience when there are hundreds of other visitors around.

πŸ“ Lempuyang Gate, Bali
That famous reflection isn't created by a lake, it's usually a photographer using a mirror beneath your phone to create the illusion.

None of that stopped me from enjoying these places.
In fact, knowing what to expect made the experience even better.

Use Instagram for inspiration. Use realistic expectations for planning.

What's one place that looked completely different in real life than it did on social media?
