NEW FLIGHTS FROM TRINIDAD & TOBAGO ✈️🇹🇹 But will they actually make Caribbean travel easier?

There are a couple of new Caribbean flight routes I'm watching.

🇹🇹 → 🇩🇲 Trinidad to Dominica
Contour Airlines has announced new nonstop flights from Piarco International Airport to Dominica, beginning October 5, with service twice weekly. The airline has also announced one-stop, same-aircraft connectivity involving San Juan and St Thomas.

🇹🇹 → 🇨🇦 Tobago to Toronto
A new direct Toronto–Tobago service has also been announced with Caribbean Airlines.
I'm watching this one, but I'm not calling it a confirmed Sunday nonstop schedule yet until I can verify the final bookable schedule.

Because when I hear about new flights from Trinidad and Tobago, I don't just ask:
“Where does it go?”
I want to know:
Is the schedule actually useful?
What will the airfare look like?
Does it give us better flight connections?
Does it make the journey easier than what we already have?

For Caribbean travellers, more airlines and more routes can be great news.
But:
NEW ROUTES = GOOD.
USEFUL ROUTES = BETTER.

Caribbean travellers know there is ALWAYS something. 😂

Expensive flights. Awkward connections. Transit visa. Nobody available when you're available. Or an itinerary that's turning into a full-time job.

The answer isn't always “don't go.”

Sometimes you change the dates.
Sometimes you change the route.
Sometimes you change the destination.
And sometimes you get somebody else to figure it out.

Good travel planning isn't about forcing the original plan. It's about finding the version that actually works.

Instagram sold me the travel dream. But did reality deliver?

I've visited quite a few of those viral travel destinations and famous tourist attractions we see all over Instagram and TikTok. Some were even better in real life.

Others? The photo was enough. 😂

Singapore Observatory: SURPRISED ME
I expected a great view. I enjoyed the experience much more than I expected.

Bali Swing: LIVED UP TO THE HYPE
Yes, it's one of those classic Instagram travel experiences. Yes, I still thought it was worth doing.

Cappadocia, Turkey: ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT 🎈
Seeing the Cappadocia hot air balloons in real life is one of those travel experiences where the photos don't quite prepare you for it.

Pisa, Italy: OVERRATED FOR ME
I saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I'm glad I did. But once was enough.

Nara, Japan: OVERRATED FOR ME
I know Nara is on almost every Japan itinerary. It wouldn't make my must-do list.

Malacca, Malaysia: OVERRATED FOR ME
Another place I'm glad I experienced, but wouldn't rush back to.

After travelling to 55+ countries, one thing I've learned is that viral doesn't automatically mean worth your vacation time or money.

And when you're travelling from the Caribbean, that's an even bigger consideration. Getting there already costs us enough. 😂

AFTER 55+ COUNTRIES, WHERE WOULD I ACTUALLY TRAVEL AGAIN? 🌍✈️

There's a difference between a country you enjoyed visiting and a country that makes you think:
“Yep. I need to go back.” 😂

🇨🇴 COLOMBIA: I'd go back.
The food, culture, colourful cities and the fact that there's still so much I haven't experienced.

🇵🇪 PERU: Absolutely.
Peru has history, incredible landscapes, amazing food and far more to experience than one trip can cover.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 SCOTLAND: Definitely.
I've only scratched the surface. There's much more of Scotland I want to see.

🇲🇦 MOROCCO: I'm glad I went.
I'm glad I experienced the culture, food, medinas and everything that makes Morocco different.
But personally? Once was enough.

And that's something I've learned from travelling to 55+ countries:
A destination doesn't have to be bad for you not to want to return.
Sometimes you leave thinking “I need another trip.”

Sometimes you leave thinking “I'm really glad I experienced that.”
Both can mean it was worth going.

THIS HOTEL BOOKING SCAM IS GETTING HARDER TO SPOT. 👀🏨

Imagine this.
You've already booked your hotel.
Then you receive a message saying:
“Your payment failed. Verify your card now or your reservation may be cancelled.”

You might normally ignore it.
Except the message knows your real hotel, travel dates and booking details. 😳
That's what makes this hotel booking scam so convincing.

It's sometimes called reservation hijacking. Scammers can obtain legitimate hotel reservation information and use it to send highly targeted phishing messages that look like genuine communication from your hotel or booking platform.

And this isn't something I want travellers dismissing as “I would know a scam when I see one.”
These messages can look VERY convincing.

🚩 If you receive an unexpected hotel payment request:
Don't click the link in the message.
Open your booking app or website yourself and check your reservation.
If necessary, contact the hotel using the phone number from its official website, not the number supplied in the suspicious message.

Booking.com also advises travellers to be wary of messages containing urgent payment requests, particularly when they're being asked to provide payment information to keep a reservation.

The travel tip I'd remember:
REAL BOOKING DETAILS DON'T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THE MESSAGE IS REAL.

SOLO TRAVEL OR GROUP TRAVEL? 👀✈️

I love solo travel but I've realised I don't want to travel EVERYWHERE the same way.

🇮🇸 Iceland?
I loved travelling solo. I could do things at my own pace, choose my own experiences and enjoy the freedom of travelling independently.

🇲🇦 Morocco?
Beautiful destination. But personally, I'd rather experience Morocco as part of a group trip.

🇰🇪 A Kenya safari?
Group travel for me too. Some experiences are just better when you're sharing the “DID YOU SEE THAT?!” moments with other people. 😂🦁

And that's the thing.
Solo travel vs group travel doesn't have to be an identity.
You don't have to be a “solo traveller” OR a “group traveller.”
You can be both.
For me, it depends on the destination, experience and type of trip.

And with solo female travel and group travel both growing, apparently plenty of travellers are thinking the same way.

So I'm curious…

GUATEMALA TRAVEL FROM THE CARIBBEAN? 🇬🇹👀

I really think this is one of those destinations Caribbean travellers aren't talking about enough.
Because Guatemala isn't just one beautiful place.

🌋 Antigua Guatemala — colourful colonial streets with volcanoes in the background.

💙 Lake Atitlán — a volcanic lake surrounded by mountains, Maya communities and some seriously ridiculous views.

🌿 Tikal — one of the world's great ancient Maya sites, with temples rising above the rainforest.

🌋 Volcán de Fuego — an active volcano, with Acatenango offering one of Guatemala's most famous adventure experiences.

And suddenly a Guatemala vacation starts looking VERY different from what you might have imagined. 👀

For me, this is exactly why I keep looking beyond the destinations Caribbean travellers automatically think about.

Sometimes the place you're overlooking is the one that ends up surprising you most.

THINKING ABOUT SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL IN 2027?

How many trips have you put off because nobody else was ready to go?

Your friend can't get the vacation days.
Somebody is saving for something else.

Which flight routing makes sense?
Do you need a visa?
What about transit requirements?
Which area should you stay in?
How are you getting from the airport?

🇹🇹 DO TRINIDAD & TOBAGO PASSPORT HOLDERS NEED A VISA?
Probably one of the questions I get asked MOST as a travel planner. 😂

So let's test your Trinidad & Tobago passport with four destinations you might not expect:
🇰🇪 KENYA — no visa, and Trinidad & Tobago passport holders are currently exempt from Kenya's eTA requirement for stays up to 90 days.

🇲🇾 MALAYSIA — no visa, but don't confuse visa-free with paperwork-free. Travellers still need to check Malaysia's Digital Arrival Card requirements before arrival.

🇨🇴 COLOMBIA — no visa required for Trinidad & Tobago passport holders for a short tourist stay.

🇭🇷 CROATIA — also visa-free for short stays. And if Dubrovnik looks strangely familiar… 👀🐉 parts of Game of Thrones were filmed there, including locations used for King's Landing.

But here's the important part:
VISA-FREE DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN “BUY A TICKET AND GO.”
You may still need to check:
✈️ your transit countries
📱 electronic travel authorisations
📝 arrival forms
🛂 passport validity and entry conditions
📆 permitted length of stay

That's why when I'm planning international travel from Trinidad, I don't only ask:
“Does this passport need a visa?”
I also ask:
“What does this traveller need to actually GET THERE?”

WOULD YOU ADD SOUTH KOREA TO A CHINA TRIP?
Because this is exactly how my group-trip planning brain works. 😂
We're already planning our September 2027 China group trip… and then I started looking at the map.

Beijing → Seoul is only around 2 hours nonstop. ✈️
And suddenly I'm thinking…
Why come all this way from the Caribbean and not consider adding 4 days in Seoul, South Korea?

🇰🇷 Gyeongbokgung Palace
🏘️ Bukchon Hanok Village
🛍️ Myeongdong + K-beauty shopping
🍜 Korean food
👀 Maybe even a DMZ tour

And for Trinidad & Tobago passport holders, there's another plus: no tourist visa is required for stays of up to 90 days. We'll check the K-ETA requirements again for 2027 before travel.

This is genuinely how Yellow Wig Travel Gurus group trips start.
I find somewhere interesting.
Then I start asking:
Can I make it work?
Does the routing make sense?
Is there enough time?
Does it add something genuinely different to the trip?
And most importantly… would my travellers actually want to do it? 😂
