New La Brea Vision NEW LA BREA VISION proposes to establish a world-class shipyard in the coastal industrial town of La Brea, south-west Trinidad and Tobago.

Shipyard to accommodate repairs to 31,000+ ocean going ships that transit within 25 nautical miles annually. The Shipbuilding and Repair Development Company of Trinidad & Tobago Limited (SRDC), is the commercial business entity of the Shipbuilding and Repair Cluster - an initiative started by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment, Government of Trinidad and Tobago (GoRTT) intended to diversify the economy from the energy sector.

The SRDC proposes to establish an integrated ship repair and shipbuilding park at La Brea in consultation with the community. Sir Walter Raleigh (1552-1618), famous explorer, writer and poet who established the first English colony in the New World, repaired his wooden sailing ship using the naturally occurring pitch from the world famous La Brea Pitch Lake in 1595.
