The 10-Day Balkans Sprint: Travel or a Marathon? 🏃
Ever watch people try to "do" the entire Balkans in 10 days or less?
It always makes me chuckle. They land, grab a coffee, check off a country, take a selfie at a monument, and sprint to the next border before the ink on their passport stamp can even dry. If checking off countries like items on a grocery list makes them happy, hey..respect to the hustle. Everyone travels their own way!
But I have to ask… what is the real point of travel?
Is it just to say you "touched" five countries in a week? Or is it to actually feel a place?
The Balkans aren't meant to be speed-run. You need 10 days, 20 days, or honestly, even more. Why? Because you simply cannot rush through soul-stirring nature, deep history, and towns that demand you slow down and drink a slow coffee with the locals just to race off to the next border.
Slow down. Breathe. Let a place actually happen to you.

📍 Mardin Türkiye 🇹🇷
Mardin is honestly like stepping into another world. Built right into a steep hillside overlooking the endless plains of Mesopotamia, this ancient city has been shaped by thousands of years of history and a rich blend of Kurdish, Arab, and Syriac cultures.
Weather & When to Go: Spring and autumn are the absolute sweet spots for visiting. Summer gets scorching hot (often over 40°C!), while winters can get quite chilly.
🗺️ What to Do:
Get lost in the old town: Wander through the maze of honey-colored stone alleys and hidden courtyards.
Hit the top historical spots: Check out the 14th-century Zinciriye Medrese and the iconic Ulu Cami (Great Mosque) for incredible architecture and views.
Explore Deyrulzafaran Monastery: A stunning, 1,600-year-old Syriac monastery just outside the center.
Catch a Mesopotamian sunset: Grab a seat at a rooftop café and sip some local coffee while looking out over the plains.
Such an unforgettable place!

They say if you climb the Galata Tower with the person you love, you'll end up marrying them. Whether that’s true or just a great excuse to drag someone up those stairs, there’s no denying the magic of this spot. Peeking out between these colorful streets, it’s been standing here for centuries, watching empires rise, fall, and turn into the chaotic, beautiful city it is today.
