Is Fethiye area Safe to travel to? Here are some facts and advice for you…
‼️ Long post alert! Summarised in photos!
As with any destination in the world, there’s always a small element of risk when we travel - whether that’s political unrest, earthquakes, pickpocketing or transport disruption. If we let every “what if” stop us, none of us would ever leave home.
That said, you do need to feel comfortable about where you’re going. A holiday spent on edge isn’t much of a holiday at all, so only travel if you feel at ease.
But don’t panic-cancel or rush to change plans, especially if your trip is still months away. Situations are fluid and can change quickly. Cancelling now could mean losing deposits or money unnecessarily.
If (and it’s a big if!) official advice from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office changes, then you’d be entitled to a refund or free amendment through most operators. That’s when decisions should be made.
For now, it makes sense to sit tight, stay informed through official channels, and let things unfold. And like everyone else, we hope tensions ease and common sense prevails.
❓So, is Fethiye safe to travel to this summer? Here’s some facts to help you…
📍 Fethiye is on Turkey’s southwest Mediterranean coast, nowhere near active conflict zones.
📏 Distance matters: Fethiye is over 2,000 km from Tehran-that’s further than the distance from London to Rome. Same country does not mean same risk.
🌍 Turkey is a long-standing member of NATO. Any serious escalation involving Turkey has major international implications- this isn’t an isolated state.
🛂 UK FCDO advice has not changed for the southwest coast. As it has for many years, it only advises against travel within 10 km of the Syria border (and specific border areas). That does not include Fethiye — and that position isn’t new.
✈️ Flights, airports and resorts in the Fethiye/Dalaman area are at the moment operating normally. Any airspace closures will be public information and available immediately.
🧳 Major airlines and tour operators have not suspended holidays to the Turkish Riviera at all and are actively still selling holidays and flights.
🏖️ Millions visit this coastline every year without incident. Tourism is vital to the region and security is prioritised.
🧠 Headlines focus on geopolitics. That doesn’t automatically translate to risk in a Mediterranean beach resort over 2,000 km away.
📢 Bottom line: Unless official government advice changes or flights are cancelled, there is currently no directive to cancel or panic about summer holidays in Fethiye.
If you have any questions please, as always, don’t hesitate to ask.
🥰 Our thoughts are with anyone directly impacted by the situation and we are all praying for this to stop!
