MY PATTAYA HOLIDAY REVIEW
I’ve just returned from ten days in Pattaya and, overall, I would say I had a very good experience.
Before going, I had heard a lot about the place. Some people described it as chaotic, some said it had changed, and others told me you really need to spend time there to understand it.
After ten days, I think I have a fairly good idea of what Pattaya is like.
I stayed in a hotel near the centre, which was convenient because most things I wanted to see were within walking distance.
Most evenings I went to Walking Street.
There were plenty of bars, restaurants and entertainment venues, although after a few nights they did begin to feel quite similar.
I also visited Soi 6, which was interesting, although I found it quite touristy.
One afternoon I went to Jomtien Beach.
It was quieter than Pattaya Beach, but there wasn’t quite as much going on.
I also had a look around Terminal 21 and spent some time around Central.
The shopping was good and there were plenty of places to eat.
Transport was generally easy enough. I mostly used Bolt and occasionally took a baht bus, although you do need to be careful because some drivers will try to charge you more than the local price.
The food was excellent.
I ate mainly in restaurants because I wasn’t particularly confident about eating from the smaller local places.
The people were friendly and I never had any serious problems.
I would say Pattaya is a good destination if you want nightlife, beaches, restaurants and plenty to do.
Personally, I think ten days was probably enough for me to see the main attractions.
There were a few people I met who had been living there for years who kept telling me that I hadn’t really seen Pattaya yet.
They mentioned areas I’d never heard of and talked about completely different sides of the city.
I suppose every place has its local secrets.
But realistically, if you’ve walked around Walking Street, visited Soi 6, seen Jomtien and had a look around the main shopping centres…
I think you get the general idea.
Overall, I’d give Pattaya a very positive review.
Would I come back?
Probably.
Although next time I might stay somewhere different so I can see the other side of the city…
