Chakri Memorial Day is a national public holiday in Thailand observed every April 6 to commemorate the founding of the Chakri Dynasty in 1782.
Significance and History
Establishment: It marks the coronation of King Rama I (Phra Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great) as the first monarch of the dynasty on April 6, 1782.
Founding of Bangkok: On this same date, King Rama I established Bangkok (Krung Thep) as the capital city of Thailand.
Dynastic Tribute: While it honors the founder, it is also a day to recognize the contributions of all ten kings in the dynasty, including the current monarch, King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X)
