🚉 NUTSHELL@CE – 4th Partner Meeting in Oberhof, Germany

On 21–22 April 2026, project partners met in Oberhof (Germany) for the 4th Partner Meeting of the NUTSHELL@CE project, hosted by PP11-Municipality of Crawinkel in a hybrid format.
The meeting was officially opened by Mr. Daniel Fischer, Mayor of Oberhof, while the overall coordination on behalf of the Lead Partner was guided by Giovanni Fini from the Union of Municipalities of the Savio Valley River (Italy).
Over two intensive working days, partners reviewed progress across all project work packages. The programme included discussions on capacity building, data collection, joint analysis, local and regional action plans, and the implementation of pilot actions in partner territories. A study visit on the Ohra Valley Railway from Gotha to Ohrdruf was also part of the agenda.
The meeting highlighted a wide range of mobility solutions being developed within the project, including a potential cross-border bus connection in the Bratislava Region, mobility hubs in Slovenia and Italy, timetable harmonisation on the Ljubljana–Graz corridor, virtual QR-based departure boards in Rzeszów (Poland), and the gradual reactivation of the Ohratal Railway in Germany.
🎥 During the meeting, short video interviews were also recorded with project partners, presenting their role in the project. These will be further processed by No Gravity (Slovakia) into a communication series to be published on the project website and a dedicated channel, helping increase project visibility and strengthen external communication.
The event concluded with project communication updates delivered by Gabriel Adamek from No Gravity, along with valuable time for partner exchange, coordination and informal discussion.
The 4th Partner Meeting confirmed strong project momentum and created a solid basis for the next phase of pilot implementation across Central Europe.

🍀On 2 April 2026, a cross-border workshop on cycling tourism 🚲took place at the GO! Center in Gorizia/Gorica, bringing together Italian and Slovenian stakeholders to discuss territorial integration, services and development opportunities in this field.
The event was organised by GECT GO within the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE programme and the BorderLabs CE project. It focused on strengthening cooperation and promoting innovative approaches to sustainable and slow tourism based on cycling mobility and cross-border connectivity.
The programme included a presentation of the BorderLabs CE project and action plan, interactive co-creation sessions, a plenary presentation of group work results, conclusions and informal networking.
In this context, the NUTSHELL@CE project contributes through its pilot initiative in the Brda area, centred on the development of a mobility hub in Šmartno.
The pilot aims to connect cycling mobility, public transport and last-mile solutions such as e-bikes and on-demand transport, helping to improve sustainable tourist mobility and cross-border accessibility between Brda and Collio.
☝The workshop once again confirmed that sustainable cross-border tourism requires cooperation, participatory governance and concrete pilot solutions.

🚌💧The future of transport in the Moravian-Silesian Region (MSK) is Hydrogen!
The -Silesian Region, Regional Authority is taking a major step towards modern mobility by signing a new ten-year contract with , which will bring the first hydrogen buses to the Havířov area starting next December. This initiative is a key part of our commitment within the CE project, where we focus on harmonizing strategic planning to ensure that such local innovations contribute to a more integrated and functional transport network across Central Europe. 🏁
Our new fleet will consist of 13 modern vehicles, including 4 hydrogen-powered and 9 CNG buses, offering passengers 21st-century comfort such as Wi-Fi and USB charging on key routes between Havířov and Ostrava. ✨Through our involvement in the NUTSHELL@CE project, we are working to bridge the gap between regional transport plans and real-world implementation, ensuring that high-tech solutions like hydrogen mobility are not just isolated tests, but part of a cohesive European strategy.
🌍With a range of 300 km and a 10-minute refueling time, these eco-friendly buses prove that sustainability and operational flexibility can go hand in hand.
🤝As a proud partner of NUTSHELL@CE, the Moravian-Silesian Region, Regional Authority (Mrs. Hana Ondračka Kraussová-Krausová, Mr. Aleš Trnka) is using this project to share best practices and test practical solutions that strengthen cross-border accessibility and cooperation, moving us all toward a greener and more competitive future in public transport. 🔴⚪

🚌 NUTSHELL@CE is supporting another important step towards better cross-border mobility in the Bratislava border region.

As part of Nutshell CE project, preparations are underway for the pilot test operation of the proposed bus line (902), which is expected to connect Bratislava, Berg, Kittsee, Edelstal and Prellenkirchen. The initiative was presented and discussed during an information meeting held on 11 March 2026 in Schloss Kittsee, jointly organised by hashtag (Bratislavská integrovaná doprava, a.s. / Bratislava Integrated Transport) and baum_cityregion.
The meeting brought together representatives of the involved municipalities and project stakeholders, including Johann Köck (Mayor of Prellenkirchen), Ines Böckl (Municipal Councillor of Edelstal), Johannes Hornek (Mayor of Kittsee), Horst Pelzmann (Mayor of Berg), as well as Christian Berger and Katarina Schlosser from NÖRegional / baum_cityregion, Martin Šulek and Šimon Juřík from BID, and No Gravity (project communication) representing NUTSHELL@CE project.
📍 According to the current concept, the NUTSHELL@CE project´s pilot action should take the form of a three-month free-of-charge test operation in the second half of summer 2026. The proposed line (902) is expected to link the municipalities with a stop on the new tram line 3 in Bratislava-Petržalka, helping to assess real passenger demand and the long-term potential of this cross-border connection.
🤝 Through NUTSHELL@CE, partners are working together to test practical mobility solutions, improve accessibility, and strengthen cooperation across borders in Central Europe.

🚌🌍Designing smart mobility for Rzeszów and its surroundings!

On 9 January 2026, we took another step towards modern transport in our region. Regional workshops were held at the Rzeszów Regional Development Agency, where together with the Rzeszów Public Transport Authority and regional partners we developed a vision for the Rzeszów Functional Urban Area.

Why does it matter?
We identified the mobility needs of local residents – the PTSQC (Public Transport Spatial Quality Control) analysis showed that the largest group of passengers (over 100,000 people) currently relies on medium-quality connections. Our goal is to eliminate transport “white spots” and create a system that makes switching from car to bus or train easier than ever.

Key outcomes of the workshops:
✅ Innovative QR passenger information boards – We selected a scenario for implementing virtual passenger information boards. With just a smartphone, passengers will be able to check real-time departure information for trains, suburban buses and city buses in one place!
✅ Full data integration – We are working on integrating GTFS data from at least three different operators (regional rail, intermunicipal buses and urban public transport).
✅ 7 strategic locations – The pilot will cover key mobility hubs, including the Rzeszów Transport Centre, Jasionka Airport, Boguchwała and Świlcza.
We would like to thank the experts for their valuable input and joint work on the Action Plan. Together, we are shaping 21st-century public transport!

🚍 Co-creating better transport for peripheral regions in Czech Republic!

On 7 January 2026, partners of the NUTSHELL@CE project met in Ostrava to design practical solutions for improving public transport accessibility in the Moravian-Silesian Region.

Together with regional authorities, KODIS and transport experts, we:

✔ analysed public transport accessibility
✔ discussed strategic regional priorities
✔ compared possible service scenarios
✔ selected Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) as the pilot solution

The workshop resulted in a draft action plan for launching DRT in the Osoblažsko area – a concrete step toward more flexible and sustainable mobility in sparsely populated regions.

We continue working towards innovative transport solutions for Central Europe. 🌍
