Vegan home cooked meals for our guests by the ex shark fishermen's wives, on Gili Maringkik fishermen island, always.

Because alternative sources of income for the community, and kindness, shape our philosophy, always.

Also heartened to hear the group wax lyrical about how yummy the lunch is :)

Received a very very sweet message from one of the parents in the recent group about how they were impacted by the trip, and I'm feeling very touched and emotionally overwhelmed now🥺🥺 She said the kids wanted to help support The Dorsal Effect before they leave Lombok, somehow, and that they were sad that we are ceasing the trips in June. I'm grieving the decision too but I feel it's the right move and I promise I'll share more soon 😭😭😭❤️ but my heart rn...

So many emotions on the snorkelling trip with this lovely group today. Every child comes with so much interesting personality of his and her own, yet all of them carry the same innocence, candour and politeness that's quite unlike any other children I've encountered (I truly believe there's magic in homeschooling culture). They were so adept in the water and so willing and able to help the younger and smaller ones amongst them. I was just fascinated by the bunch and deeply humbled by their trust in our team for the last 2 days...

I think I've really always enjoyed the school (conventional and unconventional) group boat trips over the last 13 years, the most. Perhaps the teacher in me will always remain, as the children, teens, youth light me up and inspire me on this journey.

What a beautiful start to the Chinese New Year for me. ❤️

Home cooked vegetarian lunch for the hungry children, courtesy of the village head's family. Because it's hard to wanna stomach any fish or the likes after a morning of being up close and personal with the realities of the shark trade.
