🤝🌱 In a momentous step towards strengthening interfaith harmony, leaders from 10 faith traditions came together to affirm the Charter on Neighbourliness, led by the Mufti of Singapore, Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir.

Joined by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, the affirmation took place at the Harmony Centre and An-Nahdhah Mosque 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

Grounded in shared values of compassion, mutual respect and care, the Charter calls on us to go beyond respecting our differences — take an interest in one another, share in each other’s joys and difficulties, and offer support when needed.

Ultimately, neighbourliness is built through the little things we do every day. Each act of understanding, kindness and care brings us closer and strengthens the bonds we share as one community. 🌱

What does interfaith harmony mean to you? 🤝

It's a question that might seem simple, but the answers reveal so much about the values that bind us together as a community. At the Harmony Centre and An-Nahdhah 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner on 14 October, we had the privilege of asking voices from across Singapore's religious communities this very question — and their answers were a beautiful reminder of what makes our shared home so special.

From the everyday acts of kindness between neighbours to the deeper commitment of showing up for one another across differences, interfaith harmony is something we all have a part to play in. It is not just the work of leaders or institutions — it lives in our neighbourhoods, our void decks, and our daily interactions.

We are reminded that harmony is not something we inherit — it is something we actively choose and nurture, together.

Standing With Drivers Facing Rental Issues

NPHVA recognises the challenges private-hire drivers face in rental arrangements, including disputes with rental companies and cases involving alleged scams or intimidation. These issues can have a significant impact on drivers’ livelihoods, finances and peace of mind.

Over the years, NPHVA has taken steps to help drivers better understand their rights, make informed decisions and navigate rental-related disputes. These include:

- Education and awareness: Developing resources such as our rental checklist and vehicle leasing guidebook to help drivers understand rental terms and identify potential risks before entering into rental arrangements.

- Advisories and guidance: Sharing relevant information on rental-related concerns and possible steps drivers can take when issues arise.

- Legal education: Organising sessions with lawyers to help drivers understand their rights and available avenues for recourse.

- Pro-bono legal clinic: NTUC members may also access NTUC’s existing legal clinic services for pro bono legal assistance, subject to the applicable eligibility criteria and availability.

- Cases and engagement: Assisting members in over 150 rental-related cases this year and engaging relevant parties to seek clarification and resolution, with outcomes depending on the circumstances of each case.

Recognising that rental disputes can be complex and existing avenues may not always lead to satisfactory outcomes, NPHVA is exploring further options to seek recourse for affected drivers and address gaps in the assistance available.

NPHVA will continue its casework, engage relevant parties and pursue practical avenues to address rental-related concerns affecting drivers.

Following the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ (MFA) updated travel advisory issued on 13 October 2026, which advises Singaporeans to defer all travel to Saudi Arabia due to heightened security risks, MUIS advises Singaporeans planning to perform Umrah to take heed of MFA’s advisory and consider deferring their travel for the time being.
