๐๐ณ๐ต As part of our MOU with Singaporean humanitarian organisation Humanity Matters (HM), PIL recently participated in their series of โOne Nation, One Humanityโ initiatives to support relief efforts for communities affected by the devastating avalanche and flash floods that struck Nepal in August.
๐ก๐ฃ๏ธ The first event took place on 19 September, when PIL CEO Lars Kastrup and Head of Global Sustainability and ESG Jerid Soo attended an insights session hosted by HM. The session was attended by Singapore Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs & Social and Family Development Mr Goh Pei Ming ๅดๅน้ญ, alongside about 40 religious leaders, corporate representatives, and individual sponsors. HMโs acute emergency response team shared first-hand accounts of their relief operations in Nepal, provided updates from the ground, and outlined plans for the next phase of humanitarian assistance.
๐โโ๏ธ๐ฐ Next on 27 September, Lars joined more than 100 volunteers from all walks of life in a street collection event to raise funds for HMโs rehabilitation programmes supporting displaced and stranded Nepalese communities. Singapore Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad, was also present. Together, participants raised a total of S$15,000 to support the initiatives.
โ๏ธ๐ฆ PILโs support continued on 4 October, when 30 colleagues from head office in Singapore, including Lars, volunteered their time to pack relief supplies for the affected communities in Nepal. Joining forces with over 50 community volunteers including Singapore Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Finance and Manpower Mr Shawn Huang Wei Zhong ้ปไผไธญ, the team packed:
๐น5,000 collapsible jerry cans for the safe collection and storage of water ๐ง
๐น5,000 lightweight winter blankets which double up as warm sleeping bags ๐
๐น5,000 inflatable pillows for those affected to rest comfortably. ๐ง
๐๐ข Under the three-year MOU signed with HM in March 2025, PIL has pledged up to S$1 million in shipping and logistics services to support HMโs humanitarian efforts across Asia. In line with this commitment, PIL will transport the relief supplies in a 40-foot container to Kolkata, India in mid-October, before they are delivered inland to Kathmandu, Nepal.
๐ชโฅ๏ธ Our active involvement in these relief efforts reflects PILโs Future-Focused commitment to uplifting communities in times of need. By working hand in hand with like-minded partners such as HM, we can extend the reach of humanitarian assistance and help create a more resilient future for those affected by disaster!
