"When I went to ITE after my N-Levels, people thought I couldn't achieve more in life. I wanted to prove them wrong."

Today, Signalling Engineer Mohammad Faraadis Bin Mohd Yusoff has done exactly that. Earlier this month, he graduated with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering 🎓, all while working full-time at SBS Transit!

Behind this milestone was a demanding journey that called for discipline and perseverance. For three evenings a week, Faraadis headed straight from work to class. 📚 During his final two trimesters, he spent his nights writing a 20,000-word dissertation after work.

What kept him going was his desire to deepen his engineering expertise and build his career in the rail industry. 🚇 Through it all, his family and friends remained a constant source of encouragement.

He also had a team behind him at SBS Transit. 💪🏼 Knowing the challenge of balancing work and studies, his colleagues checked in on him regularly and readily shared the workload when needed. His bosses did their best to accommodate his study schedule, while drawing on their experience to offer valuable guidance on his projects.

This spirit of teamwork was what led Faraadis to apply to SBS Transit as his first job. ✨ Having previously interned with the Downtown Line Rolling Stock department, he was drawn to the collaborative work culture and opportunities to develop his skills across various railway systems.

Looking back, Faraadis hopes to remind others to believe in their journey. ☀️ "Success isn’t about reaching your destination the fastest. Walk your own path and achieve at your own pace. Never let your starting point define where you end up."

We are incredibly proud of Faraadis, not just for how far he has come, but for his determination and humility which has inspired us all! ❤️

In collaboration with Land Transport Authority – We Keep Your World Moving, LiSHA and Indian Heritage Centre, we have brought the festive glow to selected Deepavali-themed trains on the 🚇 Downtown and North East Lines till 11 November.

Inspired by majestic elephants, traditional lamps and colourful rangolis, soak in the vibrant murals at💙 DT12 Little India station and keep your eyes peeled for specially wrapped buses on 🚍 Services 99, 147 and 166.

This Deepavali, may we be inspired to share our light to brighten someone's day and spread kindness wherever we go. After all, the brightest journeys are the ones we share! 😊

Stepping forward when it matters most! 💪👏

Last Thursday, our Bus Captain Zhang Zhipeng and Assistant Station Manager Mohamed Bin Osman received the Community First Responder Award 🎖 from Singapore Civil Defence Force for their quick thinking and swift actions during two separate fire 🔥 incidents.

Zhipeng helped extinguish a 🚘 car fire along Holland Road on 8 August, while Mohamed responded swiftly 🧯 to a fire at Little India MRT station on 10 September. Both stepped forward without hesitation, helping to keep members of the public and commuters safe.

Their actions reflect our SBS Transit CARES 🧡 culture, where caring for others goes beyond daily duties. Whether on the road, on board a train or at our stations and interchanges, our colleagues are always ready to lend a helping hand.

Congratulations to Zhipeng and Mohamed on this well-deserved recognition! 👏

To improve service reliability across Singapore by better managing delays and bus bunching. That’s what we’re working towards with FlowOS. 🚌✨

Developed with our UK technology partner, .io, FlowOS is an AI tool that helps our Service Controllers keep buses running at more regular and predictable intervals. A first for Singapore's public bus industry, it combines real-time operational insights with the experience of our teams, helping them make quicker, better-informed decisions when conditions on the road change unexpectedly.

Currently being trialled on Services 70 and 145, FlowOS is another step towards harnessing technology to empower our people and deliver more reliable journeys for our commuters.

On the afternoon of 14 September, Bus Captain Toh Tiong Huat was driving Service 55 along Hougang Avenue 3 when he noticed a Tower Transit bus moving unusually slowly before pulling into a bus stop. Sensing that something was amiss, he safely parked his bus and went over to check. 🚌🚏

His concern was well-founded. The Bus Captain onboard had lost consciousness. 🆘

Tiong Huat immediately opened the bus doors to check on his fellow Bus Captain and contacted Tower Transit’s Bus Operations Control Centre for help. 📞 Meanwhile, a passenger called for an ambulance. 🚑 Once he knew help was on the way, Tiong Huat returned to his bus and continued his journey.

Yesterday, Tiong Huat was commended at an appreciation ceremony by Tower Transit Singapore and the Public Transport Council for stepping in to help a fellow Bus Captain in distress. 👏🏼

His actions remind us that beyond the different uniforms we wear, we are always ready to look out for one another. We may represent different public transport operators, but we are all part of the same family. 💜

🎙️ How can AI make everyday journeys better?

Mr Jeffrey Sim, SBS Transit's Group CEO, and Mr Michael Huang, ComfortDelGro’s Head of the Singapore Point-to-Point Mobility Business, joined CNA938’s Shaping Tomorrow – Made in SG recently, to discuss how AI is helping to make journeys safer, more reliable and more inclusive.

Jeffrey shared how we're trialling FlowOS, an AI decision support system that helps Service Controllers spot developing issues earlier and keep buses running at more regular intervals. 🚌 This technology has also been deployed by Metroline, one of the overseas subsidiaries of our parent company ComfortDelGro, in London. 🇬🇧

He also spoke about autonomous robotic dogs supporting train inspections and depot security, enabling our people to focus on higher-value engineering and security tasks. At our stations, virtual assistants SiLViA and AIVA 🤖 are helping to make travel more accessible and convenient for commuters with different needs, including wheelchair users and those with visual impairments.

💡 At the heart of it all, AI is about complementing human expertise, not replacing it, giving our people better tools to work smarter, faster and better.

As Jeffrey puts it: “That is ultimately how we should measure the technology; not by how advanced it sounds, but by whether it makes everyday journeys better.” 👍

“The Enabling Pathway Programme (EPP) paved the way for me to be a technician with SBS Transit and at the same time, continue with my studies through a Work-Study Diploma in Land Transport Engineering with ITE,” shared Umran. The 19-year-old, who is on the autism spectrum, is grateful for the support of his friendly colleagues and supervisors, whose encouragement has helped him grow in confidence. 🙌 Today, he supports the maintenance of fare gates across our MRT stations.
