The largest model is designed for washing wide bodied aircraft such as the A380 and B747. It has a three-arm system with a longer under arm and shorter top arm to reach over larger wing areas. The washing height exceeds 12 meters.

Did you know that it takes a crew of three to seven people around five hours to wash a widebody aircraft? That’s some mission, not to mention the energy and water spent during the cleaning process!
Jan Brunstedt, CEO of Aviator Robotics AB, the designers and manufacturers of Nordic Dino, has reported that by automizing this part of the process, we can aid in the reduction of human errors considerably.

However, semi-automatic exterior cleaning robots are still a rather niche part of the industry. Automatizing processes such as aircraft exterior cleaning, an important part of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, can aid with numerous benefits including safety, cost-efficiency, and time.

Human involvement in the aircraft maintenance process inevitably comes with a risk of human error — that’s because we can be a tricky, inconsistent species and unfortunately this rate has continued to rise over time.
A recent IATA study shows that way back in 1903, in the early days of aviation, around 80% of accidents, related to maintenance, were caused by machines. But the tables have turned and now the statistic is mirrored by the rate of human error. Eek!

Despite this, several MRO service suppliers for airports and airlines are still sticking to traditional ways of cleaning exteriors. Automating processes like aircraft exterior cleaning, an important part of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, could aid in cutting down the risk of human error considerably.

As we are sure most people appreciate, maintenance requires extreme precision, attention to detail, and a human touch to ensure aircraft operate safely.
However, according to an IATA study, 26% of airplane accidents were initiated by human error in maintenance-related oversights. It’s all part of being human — we unfortunately make mistakes!

The good news though is that by automating processes such as aircraft exterior cleaning, an important part of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, this could aid in cutting down the number significantly.
