Saudi Arabia Introduces Electronic Travel Authorisation for UK Visitors
Saudi Arabia has introduced a new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) programme for British passport holders, making it easier for eligible travellers to visit the Kingdom for short-term purposes.
The initiative, which took effect on July 1, allows holders of all categories of UK passports to obtain electronic travel approval for multiple trips. Eligible visitors can spend a combined total of up to 180 days in Saudi Arabia over a 12-month period, whether during one extended stay or across several visits.
The ETA is designed for travellers visiting the Kingdom for tourism, business activities and short-term study. However, it cannot be used for employment, long-term residency or Hajj travel. Individuals travelling for those purposes must continue to apply for the relevant visa category before entering Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities said the new travel authorisation reflects the close relationship between the Kingdom and the United Kingdom and follows similar travel facilitation measures introduced by the UK for Saudi nationals.
The move is expected to simplify travel procedures for British visitors while supporting Saudi Arabia's broader efforts to boost tourism, strengthen business ties and encourage greater people-to-people exchanges under the country's ongoing economic diversification strategy.
Travellers are advised to review the latest eligibility requirements and application procedures before making travel arrangements.
