The conference hosted at the Mountain Economy Center CEMONT in Vatra Dornei, Romania, marking International Mountain Day 2025, provided an excellent opportunity to present the final results of the European Tourism Sustainability Monitoring 2030 (ETSM2030) project.

Held under the title “Smart development and the resilience of mountain communities in the face of current global crises – Perspectives for a sustainable mountain economy”, the event brought together policymakers, researchers, and practitioners committed to the future of mountain regions.

The ETSM2030 results were presented in the plenary session by Rey Adrian - Radu, representing our Romanian partner organisation RoMontana, and were complemented by a poster presentation highlighting key project outcomes.

We are very pleased to share these valuable results, which contribute to improving sustainability in the tourism sector at European level.

The ETSM2030 project was presented as an example of good practice at a poster exhibition during Sustainability Week at the University of Innsbruck.

From November 10 to 14, 2025, the University of Innsbruck hosted its third Sustainability Week.
The aim of the poster exhibition was to showcase research projects and initiatives at the University that contribute to sustainability—both on campus and beyond.

The exhibition opened during the kick-off event on November 10, 2025, at the Ágnes-Heller Haus. After a welcome address by the Rector of the University of Innsbruck, Veronika Sexl, guests were invited to a relaxed brunch, where the posters were presented and visitors had the opportunity to ask questions. Birgit Pikkemaat and Claudia Rauch, Austrian project team members from the University of Innsbruck, represented the ETSM2030 project at the kick-off event.

During the recent ETSM2030 training session, Theresa Geißel from Innsbruck Tourismus invited participants to look at sustainable tourism through the lens of collaboration. Under the theme “Collaborative Sustainability: DMO and SMTEs Shaping Tourism Together”, she illustrated how Innsbruck’s sustainability strategy was shaped hand-in-hand with local businesses—turning individual efforts into collective impact.

From mobility solutions to accessible visitor experiences, the session showed how SMTEs can actively contribute to a more responsible tourism ecosystem. Inspiring examples from regional partnerships highlighted what becomes possible when DMOs and businesses work side by side.
