Romania’s process for employing non-EU workers changed significantly in 2026.

Since 27 April, the traditional work permit-based process has been replaced by a new digital framework built around WorkinRomania.gov.ro and a single electronic application. The system also introduced two work visa routes: D/AM1, mainly for highly qualified workers and other specific categories, and D/AM2, for permanent, seasonal and other eligible workers, including occupations on Romania’s shortage list.

The aim is a more streamlined, transparent and digital process, bringing several stages of foreign worker recruitment into one platform.

For employers recruiting internationally, understanding which route applies and how the new procedure works is now an essential part of workforce planning.

Long-term residence in Romania means more than simply being able to stay in the country for a longer period.

According to information provided by Romania’s General Inspectorate for Immigration, foreign nationals who obtain long-term residence rights in Romania may benefit, under the conditions provided by law, from treatment similar to that of Romanian citizens in five important areas: access to work without a separate work authorisation, education and professional training, healthcare and social protection, certain tax deductions and exemptions, as well as access to public goods and services.

The application for long-term residence must be resolved within six months, with the possibility of a three-month extension for objective reasons.

For international employees and their families, long-term residence can be an important step towards greater stability and integration in Romania.

Last weekend, from Friday to Sunday, the RILVAN Group team headed to Valea Doftanei for a few days of fresh air, adventure and quality time together.

Between kayaking, ATV rides and plenty of moments spent simply enjoying each other’s company, the weekend gave us the chance to reconnect, recharge and have fun outside the usual work routine.

On 19 September 2026, Regulation (EU) 2026/2108 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union, establishing a new Union Customs Code and the European Union Customs Authority.

The reform introduces significant changes to the way customs operations will be managed across the EU, including the creation of the EU Customs Data Hub, increased digitalisation, enhanced risk management and new compliance requirements for economic operators. The new framework will be implemented progressively, with most practical changes taking effect between 2027 and 2034.

For companies involved in international freight, staying ahead of these changes will be essential for maintaining efficient and compliant cross-border operations. Our Freight team closely follows regulatory developments that can impact the movement of goods and customs procedures across Europe.
