Travel Carpathia

Travel Carpathia Spend memorable moments in Romania's nature at our specialized wildlife hides. Welcome to Travel Carpathia! Thank you for joining us on this journey.

By choosing us, you're supporting the conservation work of Foundation Conservation Carpathia. All of our profits go towards funding the Foundation's projects to create Europe’s largest forest wilderness National Park in the Romanian Făgăraș Mountains. This will be a complete and self-sustaining ecosystem, which benefits nature and people whilst mitigating climate change. We aim to create a new, no

n-destructive economy for the benefit of biodiversity as well as the local communities. We're developing Conservation Enterprise examples in and around the Făgăraș Mountains and working closely with the locals in order to achieve this. Our ultimate goal is to establish a world-class protected wilderness in the Southern Romanian Carpathians, an icon for conservation in Europe, and a new emblematic National Park that will benefit everyone.

“It was a perfect stay.”

From the guestbook — Bunea Wilderness Cabin

Some experiences are difficult to describe — until someone writes them down in a guestbook.

During a September stay at Bunea, one guest described watching a bear for nearly an hour after arrival, spotting a wild boar during the night, and waking to another bear the next morning.

Here’s part of what they wrote:

“We had an amazing overnight stay here at Bunea. We already saw a bear during arrival and could observe it for nearly one hour.”

And perhaps the simplest summary of all:

“It was a perfect stay.”

Special thanks were also left for Alex, “for his great support and explanations.”

“Seen our first ever bears… I cried!”

Some experiences are difficult to describe — until someone writes them down in a guestbook.

Jade & Isaac stayed with us at Bunea in June 2025 and experienced pristine wilderness, wildlife encounters, quiet evenings in the hide, and seven unforgettable bear sightings.

Here’s part of what they wrote in our guestbook:

“We’ve had the most amazing time at Bunea! Seen our first ever bears (7 sightings in total — I cried!) and really enjoyed being in and enjoying this pristine nature…”

And perhaps our favourite line:

“This place really is so special.”

Thank you, Jade & Isaac, for sharing these memories with us.

This fox 🦊 clearly didn't get the memo that beavers 🦫 are the original master engineers of the Carpathian wilderness—and they do not appreciate surprise guests!

4.5 hours in the alpine meadow at Comisu Wildlife Observation Hides & Cabin, condensed in 2 minutes.

European bison grazing, roe deer moving through the meadow, bears foraging, and the last light fading over the Făgăraș Mountains.

Filmed yesterday.

“Felt like a dream.”

Some experiences are difficult to describe — until someone writes them down in a guestbook.

Suzie & Neil joined us in the Făgăraș Mountains in June 2025 and experienced everything from dawn bear sightings and mountain hikes to quiet moments above the clouds at Comisu.

Here’s part of what they wrote in our guestbook:

“We saw bears aplenty over breakfast and got ready for our incredible hike to Comisu… we ate our apples on Comisu’s roof looking out over the mountains feeling like we stood on top of the world.”

And perhaps our favourite line:

“We will never forget how lucky we were to experience such magic in nature.”

Thank you, Suzie & Neil, for sharing this journey with us.

Peak wildflower season in the Făgăraș Mountains isn’t a months-long affair — it’s a 3–4 week masterpiece.

Right now, the alpine meadows are exploding with:

🌺 Rhododendron kotschyi — Carpathian Rhododendron
🌼 Trollius europaeus — Globe Flower
💙 Gentiana clusii — Clusius’ Gentian
🪻 Viola dacica — Dacian Violet
🔹 Veronica chamaedrys — Germander Speedwell
🌿 Potentilla ternata — Three-Toothed Cinquefoil

By late June, they’ll be gone. The mountains will still be beautiful — but this exact kaleidoscope won’t return until next May.

A big thank you to our incredible Travel Carpathia guides!

Two days ago, during a cleanup action at Pecineagu Lake, in the heart of the Făgăraș Mountains, they collected an impressive amount of waste and left the area cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.

Let’s all do our part—be mindful, respect nature, and leave nothing but footprints behind. 🌍
