Monchique Algarve Portugal

Monchique Algarve Portugal Choosing the Serra de Monchique for your annual holiday or even a short break is becoming very popular for many discerning holiday makers. Villa rentals...

David Cameron would attest to this since he spent 2 weeks here in July 2013. Margaret Thatcher also stayed here from time to time. World tourism has taken a turn in the last 10- 20 years, the attraction of sitting on crowded beaches soaking up harmful UV Rays and building sand castles with your kids, who sadly would rather play with their ipad, has become a thing of the past. This trend has create

d an ever increasing demand for more rural holidays and the demand for private villas and self catering cottages has spurned a whole new and growing accommodation sector within the tourism world. Villa Vida Nova Algarve Portugal
Monchique is no exception and both commercial and private tourist accommodation establishments have mushroomed lately with the most recent additions being the Longevity Wellness Centre and the complete renovation of the Village of Caldas de Monchique now offering individual hotels, apartments and health Spa all run from one central reception office. The way we like it......

The current Mayor and council of Monchique recognise the growth potential of tourism in the area and actively encourage growth, by providing assistance and organising local events throughout the year and especially in the summer months to entertain both locals and tourists alike. Don't worry, the quaint authenticity of the Serra de Monchique and its towns and villages will not be overwhelmed by hoards of tourists, this is the "Real Portugal" and growth will be gradual.....the way we like it! Regardless of whether you choose to stay in a hotel, cottage or private villa you will always be within walking distance or a short drive of local restaurants or the town of Monchique or Village of Caldas de Monchique. With very quiet roads, no crowds and free parking everywhere your life will be come stress free on your first day here........this is the only way to start your holiday, you just have to try it! David Cameron did! That's right the British Prime minister and his family chose to stay in Monchique for their 2013 summer holiday....was it just the free parking...you will have to come and find out for your self! Unwind and enjoy........

After a few days of unwinding, taking in the fresh air, drinking the local spring water and sampling the local culinary delights you might be ready to venture further afield. Most of the Algarve's major tourist attractions are just a short drive away. Zoo Marine, Sand Sculptures, Castles, Museums, Dolphin Viewing, Karting, the pretty south coast beaches and the wild unspoiled west coast beaches just to name a few are easy to find. Then after a hard day of "Just doing it" you can return from the hustle and bustle to take a cool glass of wine at a cafe in the square in Monchique, or return to the peace and quiet of your villa for a swim and light the BBQ.

Best places to retire in Portugal

The whole of Portugal offers excellent retirement opportunities without any doubt. Excellent infrastructure and low cost of living with welcoming people and a stress free environment.

However, if retiring from more northerly latitudes and colder climates you would probably want winters that are a lot warmer than where you are coming from, only the Algarve can offer mild winters because it has a micro climate. Here are Climate Statistics for the Algarve. If colder winters are not an issue then the choices are vast.

Any of the cities or towns in the Algarve would be suitable, some favourites are Lagos, Portimao, Vilamoura, Faro, Tavira, with smaller villages such as Alvor, Carvoeiro, Salema, Feragudo, Almancil all very suitable with plenty of villa, townhouses and apartments for sale. Because they are coastal locations property prices tend to be higher than inland locations and unfortunately during school holidays it can become very crowded both with holiday makers and traffic.

Inland towns and villages do not suffer the same fate and property prices are much lower. Generally speaking the cost of living is also lower with cheaper property taxes. restaurant prices, labour such as builders, electricians and plumbers Consider Aljezur, Marmalete, Monchique, Alferce, Sao Marcos da Serra, S.B.Messines, Silves, Alte, Salir, Alcoutim. There are expats living in all these place but are not inundated with tourists.

Any of these places are within 1.5 hours of Faro airport and 3 hour to Lisbon so all very convenient.

This is not an exhaustive list, google maps will be your best friend here, but I would advise anyone to spend much time with research and several trips staying in several locations before settling on your retirement spot.

Brits Vote to Revoke Article 50, Brexit

This applies to British Citizens anywhere.

Whether you are a remainer or leaver a "No Deal" or "May's Deal" are both the worst possible outcomes for both sides. It has become an absolute farce. Theresa May declares that it would be undemocratic to revoke Article 50 and so pushes ahead regardless, ignoring the fact that democracy failed the public in the first instance when the referendum was offered without full disclosure of possible outcomes.

It is necessary to revoke Article 50, so that this government or a future government can learn from this shambles and get their ducks in order. By FIRST negotiating binding radical changes within the EU or negotiating a binding withdrawal agreement AFTER WHICH and only then, have a referendum and if the results dictate, then submit an Article 50.

Please vote and pass this on to all Brits that you know: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/241584

Thank you
