This is an estate full of history and a unique quality of wines. These vineyards are in the heart of Reguengos de Monsaraz, an estate with around 702 hectares of vineyards and olive groves, where the wines are more balanced and seductive, simultaneously vigorous and pleasant, lush and with a good aging capacity. If the vineyards are the lungs of the Estate, the winery is the heart that beats to the rhythm of the harvest.

At the Herdade do Esporão restaurant, Chef Carlos Teixeira presents you with “Terroir” cuisine with a focus on products from Alentejo and Portugal combined with modern preparation and interpretation, made with seasonal products, from local and national producers. In a region full of megalithic monuments, it is believed that the primitive human occupation of this site dates back to a prehistoric fort, successively occupied by Romans, Visigoths and Muslims, who obtained their subsistence from activities linked to the agropastoral economy. The toponym is linked to this last domain, since, in Portuguese, the word xarez (or sherry) derives from the Arabic saris (or sharish), designating the rockrose vegetation (xaras), then abundant on the banks of the Guadiana River. The toponym Monsaraz therefore involves Monte Xarez (or Xaraz).
