Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) – Awareness Workshop for Girls at Wassel Safe Space
Palestine Association for Development and Justice (PADJ) conducted an awareness workshop entitled “Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)” at “Wassel Safe Space” in Sultan Displacement Camp, targeting a group of adolescent girls. The workshop was organized as part of PADJ’s ongoing efforts to strengthen awareness of protection and prevention principles, reduce risks of sexual exploitation and abuse, and promote a safe environment that respects the rights, dignity, and safety of girls.
The workshop introduced participants to the concept of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), its different forms and warning signs, and situations that may expose girls to risks of exploitation or abuse. The session emphasized that sexual exploitation and abuse constitute violations of human rights and dignity, and that responsibility always lies with the perpetrator and never with the person subjected to abuse.
The session also focused on girls’ rights to safety, protection, dignity, and respect, as well as practical prevention and risk-reduction measures and ways to respond to potentially unsafe situations. Participants were introduced to safe and confidential reporting mechanisms and pathways for seeking assistance and accessing available protection and support services. Key safeguarding principles, including confidentiality, privacy, non-discrimination, respect, and Do No Harm, were also emphasized.
The workshop witnessed active participation from the girls through discussions, questions, and interactive activities. This contributed to strengthening their knowledge of their rights, protection mechanisms, and safe reporting pathways, while supporting their ability to recognize risks and seek assistance when needed within a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.
This workshop is part of a series of awareness activities implemented by Palestine Association for Development and Justice (PADJ) in the areas of protection, psychosocial support, safeguarding, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse. Through these activities, PADJ seeks to promote a culture of protection and accountability, strengthen awareness among women and girls, and contribute to creating a safer and more dignified environment for displaced communities, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Together for a safer environment… Dignity protected, everyone safeguarded.
