Smaller Ship, Bigger Experiences
Discovering the Spirit of Expedition Travel Aboard Ocean Nova
Today, Impress Travel had the incredible privilege of visiting Poole Quay and stepping aboard the remarkable Ocean Nova expedition ship firsthand, an experience that perfectly captured the true essence of adventure travel.
From the moment we arrived, Ocean Nova stood proudly alongside the harbour, inviting us into a world built not around crowds or luxury excess, but around exploration, connection, and discovery. Compact, agile, and purpose-built for expedition cruising, this extraordinary vessel represents a refreshing return to authentic travel experiences.
In a world where bigger often seems better, Ocean Nova proves the opposite.
With a maximum of just 80 passengers, the ship creates an atmosphere that feels personal, immersive, and deeply connected to the destinations it explores. Its smaller size allows access to some of the world’s most remote and pristine environments, places larger ships simply cannot reach. It’s not just about seeing the world; it’s about experiencing it closely, respectfully, and meaningfully.
One of the highlights of our visit was the stunning Panorama Lounge. Offering breathtaking 200-degree views, it’s easy to imagine guests gathered there, watching glaciers drift past, spotting wildlife in the distance, or simply reflecting on the beauty of Antarctica’s untouched landscapes.
What truly sets Ocean Nova apart, however, is its philosophy of expedition travel. Every detail onboard is designed to enrich the journey:
Small ship access to remote and intimate destinations
A superior guide-to-passenger ratio for a highly personalised experience
Daily expert presentations covering wildlife, geology, history, and exploration
An integrated Citizen Science Program, allowing travellers to contribute to real scientific research
One of the lowest fuel consumption ratios in Antarctica, supporting more sustainable exploration
Ocean Nova is more than just a ship — it is a platform for discovery, education, and unforgettable human experiences.
As we walked through the vessel today, it became clear that expedition travel is evolving. Modern travellers are no longer seeking simply to “tick off” destinations; they are searching for meaningful adventures, authentic connections, and experiences that leave a lasting impact. Ocean Nova embodies that shift perfectly.
Our visit to Poole Quay was more than an opportunity to tour a ship, it was a glimpse into the future of responsible and immersive exploration.
Smaller Ship. Bigger Experiences.
And after today, we truly understand what that means. 🌍🚢❄️
