Pakistan's PIA seeks new operator of EU/UK flights

(PK, Islamabad Quaid-e-Azam Int'l) has tendered for a new operator for its flights to the European Union and the United Kingdom from December 2022 until May 2023. It currently charters an A330-200 from Jordan Aviation (R5, Amman Queen Alia).

The airline seeks an EASA-certified carrier authorised to serve both the EU and the UK with an aircraft seating at least 250 passengers. While PIA did not specify the aircraft type, the unit has to be of 2004 vintage or younger. It also must not be due for major maintenance checks during the expected duration of the charter contract, unless the operator can provide an equivalent backup aircraft.

Turkish Airlines (THY) has “brought $14 billion of foreign currency to Türkiye this year,” said the chairperson of the flag carrier's board, Ahmet Bolat, noting that in 2023, the 90th anniversary of the company, they will add 400 aircraft to their fleet and carry the billionth passenger.

Qatar Airways has withdrawn flights from 18 destinations to make space at Hamad International Airport for airlines carrying fans to next month s football World Cup, the company s CEO said on Tuesday (Oct 18).

Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker said the priority now was to accommodate the hundreds of flights that will be landing in the country for the tournament.

Qatar, which expects about 500 shuttle flights a day as well as hundreds more charter flights and private jets, will host the Nov 20 to Dec 18 tournament with about 1.2 million visitors.

Britain opens visa scheme for millions of Hong Kongers !!

A new visa scheme offering millions of Hong Kongers a pathway to British citizenship went live on Sunday as the city’s former colonial master opens its doors to those wanting to escape China’s crackdown on dissent.

The UAE will now allow naturalization of investors and doctors, among other categories. The decision is a complete shift from the historical GCC practice of offering only visas to foreign nationals.

The UAE cabinet, local courts and executive councils will nominate those eligible for citizenship, UAE PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said on Twitter.

The new law identifies categories of foreigners who are eligible for UAE citizenship. Investors who own property in the UAE, doctors, engineers and scientists with ten or more years of experience, inventors with at least one patent certified by the UAE Ministry of Economy, and intellectuals and artists with an international award may all be granted citizenship.
