Stahlco Group Introduction & History
It was in 1986 that a small industrial facility was established in suburbs of Lahore at 21 Kilometers, Ferozepur Road. Surrounded by green fields, this was the third industrial facility in the vicinity. The initial land space that this budding new enterprise, Stahlco Domestic Products Pvt. Ltd., occupied was 1.25 acres. The principal product line was domestic
gas and electric appliances. The young company specialized in sheet metal work. Behind this specialist work was a decade long obsession with steel. Stahl is the German word for steel. The formation of Stahlco Engineering Company, which undertook construction of several wide span steel buildings for industrial customers in the region. However it would be more than a decade later that this would catch on and become a noticeable construction technology on Pakistani landscape. The success of domestic appliances and presswork led to development of sheet metal parts for tractors, a high growth industry with regard to the large agricultural base of Pakistan. In 1988, Khyber Tractors, manufacturing Ford tractors and Belarus Tractors became the first customers for different small sheet metal parts. With the steady and gradual growth of the capacity and capability, by 1996, the company had outgrown its small premises. Adjacent land acquisition started and the total land area increased to another 8 acres. A greater understanding and growing expertise with steel enabled the development of the largest sheet metal parts for tractors, and by 1996, Millat Tractors Ltd., manufacturers of world famed Massey Ferguson tractors and Al Ghazi Tractors Ltd., manufacturers of Fiat tractors signed up for the largest tractor body parts. In early part of 2000s, the companies evolved into a group and diversified into wood board industries. By 2003 the economic boom was well underway and massive developments in China brought massive growth in small engines, motorcycles, and three wheelers. Stahlco Group took the lead, and, in rapid succession, a fully-fledged motorcycle plant followed by one of the largest three wheeler plants were established. In house sheet metal work enabled full development of the body work and associated sheet metal parts within the Group. Ltd., established 2005, manufacturing four stroke motorcycles, and Stahlco Motors Pvt. Ltd., established 2006, manufacturing four stroke three wheelers became the Group's most visible enterprises with a national footprint and dealer network. The vital infrastructure required to deliver on the promise this enormous growth represents, continues to grow. The Group has one of the largest three wheeler vehicle production plants in the country with an installed capacity of 20,000 vehicles in a year, and fully equipped with state of the art paint shops, body shops, assembly lines and complete testing facilities. The motorcycles plant has an installed capacity of 100,000 motorcycles per year. The aggregate covered area of the industrial facilities has now grown to 25,000 square meters or
250,000 SFT. The year 2011, in spite of the economic difficulties, has been an important year for the Group. The pioneering efforts of late eighties in wide span steel buildings have led us to launch Widespan Steel Construction Systems, a new enterprise to undertake modern and efficient construction of fast track steel based buildings and structures with modern design and analysis software and the best in class methods, and technologies. The second development is to build and fabricate semi-trailers, tank-trailers and truck bodies under the brand name of Teknotto. The reliable and established tractors components business has seen another development with the prized addition of John Deer tractors in our customer portfolio. The Group continues to grow with the same passionate obsession with Stahl -the single most important material in the world. Continued commitment to growth, a pioneering spirit, technological advancement, focus on developing human capital, a progressive outlook continues to propel us into the 21st century.
