700 years old , and still standing strong. 🕌✨

Chaqchan Mosque, Khaplu , whose name means “The Miraculous” in the local Balti dialect. Built in 1370 AD, this is one of the oldest surviving mosques in Pakistan and one of the most breathtaking historical landmarks in all of South Asia.

Before this land was Islamic, it was a center of Tibetan Buddhism. Then came the Persian Sufi scholar Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani, his teachings converted the Raja of Khaplu to Islam, and on this very ground rose one of Pakistan’s greatest spiritual treasures.

The architecture alone will leave you speechless. Built using the ancient Opus Craticum technique, wooden beams, stone, clay and mud interlocked so perfectly that this mosque has survived Himalayan snowloads, freezing winters and earthquakes for over six centuries. Hand-carved wooden.
