OK Supermarket Zimbabwe, a beloved retail chain with nearly 70 stores across the country, has made the heartbreaking decision to close its doors. The reason? Crippling energy costs and an unsustainable business environment have made it impossible for the company to keep operating ¹.
After months of struggling to keep the lights on, literally, due to unreliable power supply and exorbitant expenses, the company's secretary, Margaret Munyuru, revealed the dire situation in a heartfelt statement. She explained that despite paying high rates for services, they couldn't access reliable electricity or essential utilities.
The financial strain has become too much to bear, and the company can no longer continue operations under these conditions. This decision will have far-reaching consequences, affecting thousands of employees who will lose their jobs and countless customers who will no longer have access to affordable groceries and essential goods.
OK Supermarket Zimbabwe has been a cornerstone of many communities, and its shutdown will create significant disruptions. It's a sad day for Zimbabwe, and our thoughts are with those who will be impacted by this decision.
