Did the Mushkpuri trip. After a huge breakfast in the best café in Dunga Gali, named after the Reeve’s pheasant. We started walking from there.
Impressed by all the young crowds, carrying biryani for lunch and huge music speakers to the top. From here you can see the snow in Kashmir, and with a bit of imagination, the Nanga Parbat too.
We should do this trip with our Asian Travel Pioneer group have lunch and dance on the top with these youngsters.
Thanks to Pervez, Javed, and Zarak for taking such good care of me. The whole day, even when I saw stars in front of me......💫

Exploring the timeless streets of old Rawalpindi one story at a time. 🌿✨

Early morning heritage walk organised by Asian Travel Pioneer under our “Let’s Beat the Heat” series — bringing travelers closer to the living history, culture, architecture, and everyday charm of the historic city.

From colorful rickshaws to centuries-old streets, every corner of Rawalpindi has a story waiting to be discovered. ❤️🇵🇰

Hidden deep inside the old lanes of Rawalpindi stands the historic Des Raj Mandir — also known as Shri Radha Krishna Mandir — a century-old Hindu temple built before the partition of 1947 by a Hindu goldsmith family. Though no longer active as a temple, its beautiful architecture and silent walls still carry the memories of a shared past.

Today’s early morning heritage walk, organised by Asian Travel Pioneer CEO Wilma van der Maten under the slogan “Let’s Beat the Heat”, brought together local and international guests to explore the forgotten stories of old Rawalpindi before the summer sun took over the streets.

As a heritage expert and storyteller, it was an honour for me to guide the group through these historic lanes where every corner still whispers history. ❤️

Early morning heritage tour in Rawalpindi were once Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims were living together.
Remains of that period are still visible as the Kalyan Das Temple in the Bhabra Bazaar, where traditional buildings with carved wood can still be found. Several gurdwaras, including Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh, also date from this time but non of them longer in active use.
After the Partition of India in 1947, most Hindu and Sikh residents left, and Muslim families migrating from India settled in these temples. Many of these families have now lived there for generations.
A number of historic buildings are in a serious state of decline. At the same time, urban development continues, often without any heritage preservation. It should to protect this rich history of Pakistan.

📍 Heritage Walk Report – Part 1

Let’s Beat the Heat

Today we successfully completed our first heritage walk in Rawalpindi under the slogan “Let’s Beat the Heat.”

The journey began early morning at Rawalpindi Railway Station, where the calm atmosphere and cool breeze created the perfect setting to explore the city’s colonial-era heritage. The station’s historic architecture and peaceful morning environment reflected the timeless character of old Rawalpindi.

From there, the walk continued to the Rawalpindi War Cemetery, followed by the Gora Qabristan, both significant sites that represent the city’s historical and colonial legacy.

This was a private curated heritage experience organized by Asian Travel Pioneer, led by CEO Wilma, hosting an international guest 🇩🇪.

The experience focused on history, culture, and authentic storytelling — highlighting Rawalpindi’s layered heritage.

These are the last sculptors of Taxila, once the center of Buddhism in what is now called Pakistan. They create the most remarkable Buddha statues. Centuries ago, monks traveled on foot over the hills from Afghanistan and northern India. They not only established some of the first universities and many stupas, but also introduced the art of sculpture.
Today, however, Buddhist Gandhara art is disappearing. These artists are sometimes accused of selling their Buddha statues as antiques. While such cases have occurred, they are not the work of these craftsmen. This beautiful tradition has existed for generations, passed down from father to son.
The government should introduce strict regulations and provide each statue with an official quality mark.

Our trip of Asian Travel Pioneers took us this weekend to Taxila where we met the last sculptors in hiding. They are accused of selling copies as antiques. It happens but not by them. This art exists for generations in Taxila. The government should make strict regulations. It's such a special art in once the centre of Buddhist-Gandara of the world. Peace ✌️ ☮️ 🕊 🏳️

Meet the Last Sculptors of Taxila: A Vanishing Craft with Asian Travel Pioneers

Join us this Sunday, 3th May, for a rare encounter with the last generation of Gandhara art craftsmen in and around Taxila. These artists continue an ancient tradition of Buddhist stone sculptures. Skills passed down over centuries, now at risk of disappearing.

We begin our journey from Islamabad, following a historic route believed to trace the path of Alexander the Great. The scenic road winds through hills and villages.

We meet the artisans in their workshops, watch them at work, and hear their stories.

Afterwards, we travel to the serene waters of Khanpur Lake, crossing by boat to one of the hidden jewels of the Buddhist world: the Bhamala Stupa.

There, surrounded by history and nature, we enjoy a home-cooked lunch in the house of a third-generation conservator, in a beautiful village within walking distance of the site.
