TOURIST ADVISORY
for Tourist attending Shandur Polo Festival 2024
We are pleased to announce that the upcoming Shandur Polo Festival will be held in Chitral Upper from 28-30 June 2024. To make sure your experience is safe and enjoyable, we would like to share some vital information / precautions.
1. Travel Preparations:
Before staring your journey, please ensure that you carry all essential items with yourself, including personal identification, warm cloths necessary medication etc.
It is advised to avoid traveling after 03:00 PM from Harchin Gol and Shahi Das Gol in Chitral. These locations experience massive water flow in the afternoon due to glacier melting.
2. Booking and Accommodation:
It is advised for tourist to attend the Shandur Festival by making their travel arrangements through reputable travel agents. It is strongly suggested to ensure timely booking of your travel to minimize any unexpected difficulties or inconveniences.
As the festival takes place in an open field, tourists often bring tents with them for accommodation.
3. Emergency Contacts:
In case of any emergency during your visit, please contact helpline 1422. This helpline is available 24/7 to provide assistance and support in various situations.
4. Travel Safety:
It is strongly recommended that in vehicles tires should be reliable. Also carry a spare tire (stepney).
Additionally, it is advised to use sunblock during stay at Shandur for Skin protection.

Terichmir Mountain, also known as Tirich Mir, is the highest peak in the Hindu Kush mountain range, located in the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Here is a brief history of the mountain:

- Pre-Colonial Era: Terichmir has been revered by local communities for centuries, with myths and legends surrounding its grandeur and spiritual significance.
- 19th Century: The mountain was first explored by European adventurers and cartographers, including the British Great Trigonometric Survey of India.
- 1950: A Norwegian expedition led by Arne Næss Jr. successfully climbed Terichmir for the first time, reaching the summit on July 25.
- 1964: An Austrian team led by Wolfgang Heichel made the second successful ascent.
- 1970s-80s: Terichmir became a popular destination for mountaineers and trekkers, with several expeditions and ascents made during this period.
- 1990s-present: The mountain has continued to attract adventure seekers and climbers, with ongoing efforts to develop sustainable tourism and conservation initiatives in the region.
