Under the current directive, shipments tagged with Red Selectivity are now subject to mandatory 100% physical examination. The previous options allowing “open door” processing or partial examinations (10%, 25%, or 50%) have effectively been discontinued.
This policy applies across all ports, commodities, and consignees, without distinction. While the intent may be to strengthen enforcement and ensure regulatory compliance, the implementation of a blanket 100% examination requirement inevitably introduces significant operational challenges.
Mandatory full inspection will substantially increase customs clearance time, create additional handling and storage costs, and impose higher operational expenses on customs brokers, importers, and logistics providers. These added layers of cost and delay directly affect supply chain efficiency.
Ultimately, such increased costs will cascade through the supply chain and be passed on to the consuming public, resulting in higher market prices for imported goods. In the broader context, this may also impact trade facilitation objectives, logistics competitiveness, and the overall ease of doing business.
