Hearing this news hits differently.

If I had pushed through with my original plan, I could have been one of those climbers on Manaslu right now.

Sometimes, we prepare for a mountain with everything we have—physical preparation, mental strength, emotional readiness, social sacrifices, and financial commitment. But even when you feel ready, there is one thing you can never control: timing and luck.

In mountaineering, preparation can take you to the mountain, but perfect timing, favorable conditions, good decisions, and a little bit of luck can make the difference between reaching the summit and making it safely back home.

Looking back, I believe that sometimes a change in plans is not a setback. Maybe it is simply the mountain telling you, “Not this time.”

To everyone currently on the mountain and those making their way down, I’m hoping and praying for everyone’s safety. May everyone return home safely to their families.

The mountains will always be there.
