The Philippine tarsier 🐒 is one of the most fascinating and unique animals you’ll find in the Philippines, especially in Bohol. Here are some quick facts about it:

🌿 What is it?
• A tiny primate (about the size of your hand) with enormous eyes that help it see in the dark.
• Believed to be one of the world’s smallest primates, standing only 3–6 inches tall.

👀 Special features:
• Its huge eyes are each as big as its brain!
• It can rotate its head almost 180 degrees (like an owl) because its eyes can’t move in their sockets.
• Has long fingers and an elongated ankle bone (called a tarsus, where its name comes from) to leap up to 5 meters between trees.

📍 Where is it found?
• Mainly in the Philippines (Bohol, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao).
• Best known tourist spot: Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella, Bohol.

🌙 Lifestyle:
• Nocturnal—active at night, resting during the day.
• Feeds on insects, small lizards, and other tiny prey.

⚠️ Conservation Status:
• Classified as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and hunting.
• Very sensitive to stress—loud noises, handling, and flash photography can harm them.

✨ Fun Fact: In Bohol, the tarsier is considered a symbol of environmental conservation and is sometimes called the “mascot” of Bohol tourism.

The Bilar Man-Made Forest is one of Bohol’s most unique and popular attractions 🌳.

Here are some quick facts about it:

🌲 What is it?
• A two-kilometer stretch of dense mahogany trees, planted by volunteers and students back in the 1960s as part of a reforestation project.
• The trees were planted so close together that their thick branches form a natural canopy, keeping the road shaded and cool.

📍 Where is it?
• Located along the highway between Loboc and Bilar, usually passed on the way to the Chocolate Hills.

✨ Why visit?
• The forest gives a magical tunnel-like effect, making it a favorite stop for travelers and photographers.
• The cool breeze and rustling leaves provide a peaceful nature escape.

⚠️ Travel tip:
• Since the road is part of the national highway, cars pass frequently. Be careful when taking photos—always stay safe at the roadside.

Travel Guide: The Chocolate Hills of Bohol 🌄🍫

The Chocolate Hills are one of the Philippines’ most famous natural wonders, located in the island province of Bohol in the Central Visayas region. With more than 1,200 perfectly rounded limestone mounds spread across an area of over 50 square kilometers, they create a breathtaking landscape that looks almost surreal.

🍫 Why “Chocolate” Hills?

The hills get their delicious name from their seasonal transformation. For most of the year, they are covered in lush green grass. But during the dry season (March to May), the grass dries and turns brown, making the hills resemble giant pieces of chocolate or Hershey’s Kisses scattered across the land. This unique natural phenomenon has made the Chocolate Hills both a UNESCO tentative World Heritage Site and a National Geological Monument of the Philippines.

📍 Where Are They?
• The Chocolate Hills are located mainly in Carmen, Bohol, though they extend to the towns of Sagbayan and Batuan.
• Carmen is about 55 km from Tagbilaran City, the capital of Bohol, which can be reached via a 1.5–2 hour drive.
• Visitors often join organized countryside tours that also include stops at the Tarsier Sanctuary, Loboc River Cruise, and centuries-old churches.

📏 How Big Are They?
• Each hill stands at 30–50 meters high (roughly 98–164 feet).
• They are almost perfectly symmetrical in shape, resembling cone-like or dome-shaped mounds.
• Scientists believe the hills were formed from the uplift of coral deposits and shaped over thousands of years by erosion.

🌟 Things to Do in the Chocolate Hills
1. Chocolate Hills Complex (Carmen)
• The most popular viewing deck where you can climb up a staircase to see the sweeping panorama of endless hills.
2. ATV & Buggy Adventures
• Rent an ATV or dune buggy to drive around the base of the hills for a closer, more adventurous experience.
3. Photography
• Best captured during sunrise and sunset, when golden light highlights the hills’ curves.
• Drone photography is allowed in some areas, offering spectacular aerial shots.
4. Zipline & Adventure Parks (nearby towns)
• Some tour operators offer ziplines and adventure rides overlooking the Chocolate Hills.

💡 Travel Tips
• Best Time to Visit: November to May (dry season) for clear skies and when the hills turn “chocolate brown.”
• Entrance Fee: Around ₱100 per person (may vary slightly). ATV rides cost extra, depending on the duration (₱450–₱900 on average).
• Timing: Arrive early in the morning (before 9 AM) or late afternoon to avoid heat and crowds.
• Transportation:
• Hire a van or car with a driver for convenience.
• Join a guided day tour from Panglao or Tagbilaran.
• For solo travelers, motorbike rentals are a popular option.
• What to Pack: Sunscreen, hat, bottled water, and a good camera.
• Nearby Attractions: Pair your visit with the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary, the Loboc River Cruise, and Baclayon Church for a full-day countryside tour.

🌍 Why You Should Visit
