Subic Sailing Club mourns the passing of Michael Jeremy “Jerry” Rollin, a dear friend, mentor, race officer, and one of the great pillars of competitive yacht racing in the Philippines.
Jerry was part of our story from the days of Saturday Afternoon Gentlemen Sailing to what Subic Sailing Club is today. For many of us, he was a steady presence behind the races we love: the one who helped shape the courses, steady the fleet, guide the committee, and make sure every sailor could race fairly, safely, and with purpose.
Through his vision, discipline, and deep love for the sport, Jerry helped put Subic Bay on the grand prix yacht racing map. He was instrumental in the growth of many of our most memorable races, including the Commodore’s Cup Regatta, Independence Day Regatta, National Heroes Day Regatta, Verde Island Passage Race, and the award-winning Subic Bay to Boracay Race.
But beyond the flags, courses, protests, finish lines, and trophies, we will remember Jerry for the way he gave himself to the sailing community. He raised sailors, mentored race managers, welcomed newcomers, challenged competitors to be better, and shared his knowledge with patience, generosity, and quiet authority.
Jerry helped create the starting lines that brought us together.
Every time we raise a sail in Subic Bay, every time the fleet gathers for a start, every time a race committee sounds the horn, part of his legacy will be with us on the water.
To his wife Cynthia, his family, and all who loved him, Subic Sailing Club extends its deepest condolences.
Fair winds and following seas, Sailor Jerry.
