We were honored to welcome Mr. Kรถken Ergun, a renowned artist and filmmaker from Istanbul, Turkey, aboard our good lady MV Capt John B. Lacson. Mr. Ergun was warmly received by our Vessel Master, Capt. Abelardo J. Leda Jr., together with the officers and engineers onboard.
During his brief visit, Mr. Ergun was given a tour of the vessel, where he had the opportunity to engage with our crew and cadets. He conducted insightful interviews, listening to their stories, experiences, and life at sea. His visit highlighted not only the unique challenges of seafaring but also the dedication and passion of our maritime community.
July 11, 2025 โ Iloilo City โ Capt. Jonathan E. Villaflor, General Manager of the JBL Maritime Vanguard Services Inc.(JBLMVSI), together with Capt. Abelardo J. Leda Jr., Master of T/S Capt. John B. Lacson, participated in the official turnover ceremony of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Region VI Regional Director.
The ceremony marked the formal turnover of leadership from outgoing Regional Director Dir. Jeffrey Bangsa to incoming Regional Director Engr. Bernardo A. Pollo. The event was attended by key maritime stakeholders and agency partners, reflecting the strong collaborative spirit among institutions working toward maritime excellence and development.
Capt. Villaflor expressed his appreciation for Dir. Bangsaโs dedicated service and significant contributions to maritime governance in Region VI, particularly in enhancing safety standards and regulatory compliance. He also extended a warm welcome and full support to Engr. Pollo as he assumes his new role, emphasizing JBLMVSIโs readiness to strengthen partnerships with MARINA under his leadership.
The turnover ceremony highlighted the collective commitment of maritime agencies and partners to uphold service excellence, regulatory integrity, and innovation in maritime administration.

On June 5, 2025 - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recently conducted a Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection (VSEI) and Emergency Readiness Evaluation (ERE) onboard MV Capt. John B. Lacson to ensure the vesselโs compliance with maritime safety standards.
The inspection focused on verifying safety equipment, emergency procedures, and crew preparedness. The PCG also observed emergency drills to assess the crewโs ability to respond effectively to potential maritime incidents.
This initiative highlights the PCGโs ongoing commitment to promoting safety, security, and preparedness across all vessels operating in Philippine waters.

Ensuring Safety at Sea: The Philippine Coast Guard took proactive steps in promoting maritime safety and emergency preparedness by conducting a comprehensive Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection and Emergency Readiness Drill onboard TS Capt. John B. Lacson. This hands-on activity was a remarkable learning opportunity for our cadets and the students of Colegio de San Jose, as they immersed themselves in real-life maritime scenarios.

Lacson, staffed by qualified on-board training officers to ensure compliance with OBT and Cadetship requirements. Its programs immerse trainees in the actual operations of equipment according to their particular field and in undertaking related activities validated in specifically designed workbooks.
The Ship
M/V Capt. John B. Lacson is a German built former bulk / container ship that was converted, refitted, outfitted into a training vessel . With a length overall of 71.92 meters, the vessel has facilities especially for a variety of onboard trainings.
The vessel has accommodations for two hundred trainees at any given time. It has a well-appointed galley, a library, a mess hall, cabins, a fully-equipped audio-visual room for classroom type settings, an engine workshop for engine students and a training bridge for deck students.
