Bakal Lokal

In line with Youth First Initiative Philippines, Inc.’s (YFI) strategy to make increasingly active contributions to the sustainable development goals, Bakal Lokal was conceptualized by the Youth First Initiative Philippines Inc. in 2019.

A recent multi-sectoral data gathering conducted by the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation, Inc. to enable the post-COVID-19 recovery of Iloilo businesses shows that 43% of local businesses who responded to the survey believe that the general business condition will deteriorate. Their data also shows that 66.6% of local businesses in Iloilo alone are focused on industries namely consumer markets, agribusiness and fisheries

In light of these, the project aims to bridge consumers to micro and small entrepreneurs (MSMEs), match local producers to MSMEs in Western Visayas and provide local transport groups and local delivery services - who do not have a regular income - an opportunity to earn. The project will primarily focus on running an online platform showcasing quality local, naturally grown, ethically- and sustainably-sourced products.

DOST VI through its Grant-In-Aid Program approved the funding of Bakal Lokal to be the reliable (e-commerce) online platform for Western Visayas integrating SMS technology, accessible online payment systems and modern digital marketing strategies in bridging MSMEs, producers, delivery services, advocacies, and consumers.
