GREAT NEWS FOR GENSAN! A significant step for our city's future!
Mga pinalangga kong taga-General Santos City, with great pride and hope, I want to share that we have officially introduced House Bill No. 03839, the βPort of General Santos Act,β in the House of Representatives. This is a crucial step towards securing a more prosperous future for our beloved city and the entire SOCCSKSARGEN region.
ANO BA ANG LAYUNIN NITO?
For a long time, our very own Sub-Port of Dadiangas has been the economic gateway to our region, handling huge volumes of trade as the country's top tuna producer. However, it currently operates under the administrative supervision of the Port of Davao.
This bill that I authored seeks to change that. Our proposal is to separate our port from the Port of Davao and upgrade it into an independent, principal Port of Entry to be officially known as the Port of General Santos.
PAANO ITO MAKAKATULONG SA ATIN?
I filed this bill because I believe this upgrade will bring massive positive impacts that will be felt by every citizen of GenSan.
For Our City and Region:
Faster Trade: By becoming a principal port, we will cut down bureaucratic layers. Cargoes can be reviewed and documents can be sent directly to the Bureau of Customs' central office, making trade more efficient.
Better Infrastructure: This upgrade will allow for better resource allocation and accelerated infrastructure development for our port, solidifying its role as a vital hub in the BIMP-EAGA region.
Stronger Economy: A more efficient port will strengthen our supply chain, enhance our region's competitiveness, and contribute significantly to national economic growth.
For You, the People of General Santos:
Lower Prices for Goods: Faster processing and direct transactions will eliminate additional storage fees and other unnecessary expenses for businesses. I believe this will ultimately lead to lower prices of commodities for all of us.
More Job Opportunities: A more developed and busier port will naturally create more jobs for our people here at home.
Support for Local Businesses: Our local businesses will be able to process their shipments faster and at a lower cost, helping them grow and thrive.
This vision for our city is widely shared. I am proud to say this proposal has already gained broad support from our Local Government Units, business chambers, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA-PMO) SOCSARGEN, and Regional Development Councils.
This is a monumental step for our future. In view of this, I am earnestly seeking your support as we push for the passage of this bill. Let us work together for a more prosperous General Santos City!
