Our living proof of what it means to be Filipino

Since time immemorial, the Indigenous Peoples have remained steadfast in the preservation of their culture, the protection of their ancestral territories, and the care for the environment.

Their actions have never been swayed by the arrival of foreign powers or the tides of colonization, they have always acted when their identity, land, and way of life were at stake. This unwavering commitment stems from a deep understanding: when their culture and lands are lost, so too is the identity that connects them to their ancestors.

In a world constantly changing, they have held the line, carrying out the responsibility entrusted to them by generations past. Because of their sacrifices and dedication, we can still witness the roots of our identity today.

they are the living proof of what it means to a be Filipino

Its more Than Land: The Indigenous Peoples Struggle for Forest Protection, Culture, and Life

The Indigenous Peoples (IPs) have long served as the guardians of the country’s remaining forests. For them, the forest is not just a place of trees and animals—it is life itself. It is their source of food, medicine, livelihood, and knowledge preserve by the past generation. many Indigenous Cultural Communities conduct their education and spiritual practices in the heart of the forest. It is their home, their history, and their heritage.

Because of this deep connection, IPs make great sacrifices to protect their ancestral lands.

Within these forests are sacred areas—mountains, rivers, and specific groves believed to be the dwelling places of spirits and ancestors. These sites are treated with deep respect and are protected by traditional laws passed down from generation to generation. Children are taught early on that protecting these lands is both a responsibility and an honor.

Despite the challenges, Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) remain firm in their commitment. Their struggle is not only to defend their rights but also to preserve the biodiversity and ecological balance that benefit the entire nation. In protecting the forests, they are protecting the future.

Mahirap maging magsasaka. Kahit gaano mo pa pagsikapan, bihira kang mapansin o mapahalagahan.
