The move is in line with the Manila Slot Coordination Committee's resolution to gradually phase out turboprop operations in the country's main gateway.

"Passengers with existing bookings for these flights will be rerouted to PALโ€™s alternative hubs in Cebu, Clark, and Iloilo, ensuring continued connectivity to affected destinations while maintaining full compliance with updated regulatory requirements," PAL said in an advisory.

Flights to and from Busuanga (Coron) and Siargao will be relocated to Clark. Flights going to and from Antique will fly via Iloilo, while services to and from Catarman will be via Cebu.

PAL, meanwhile, said that with the relocation of turboprop operations, domestic jet services between Manila and high demand routes will be increased starting March. Its Manilaโ€“Iloilo will increase up to 42 flights weekly.

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) confirms that it received a report regarding an incident that occurred on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Iloilo Airport involving a passenger and responding officers of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group.

Based on initial information, during the conduct of standard aviation security screening procedures, an OTS Security Screening Officer immediately detected and flagged a prohibited item inside a passengerโ€™s bag, which necessitated secondary screening in accordance with established security protocols.

Upon request to submit the bag for manual baggage inspection, the passenger reportedly seized the bag from the X-ray machine and fled the screening area.

Further reports indicate that while fleeing, the passenger retrieved a bladed weapon prompting immediate response from police officers at the airport premises. Personnel of the Philippine National Police promptly intervened and undertook appropriate action to prevent possible injury to surrounding passengers and airport personnel. In the course of this response, the passenger was shot in the chest. He was subsequently brought to the hospital for medical attention.

The incident is currently the subject of further investigation by the OTS, in coordination with airport authorities and law enforcement agencies.

The OTS reiterates that the immediate detection of the prohibited item by its screening personnel and the swift response of law enforcement underscore the effectiveness of existing security measures preventing weapons and other dangerous items which may be used to commit acts of unlawful interference such as plane hijacking.

The Office remains committed to the strict implementation of security measures to ensure the safety and security of the traveling public and airport personnel.

"Governor Defensor revisited plans for a direct Iloilo-Seoul flight, noting that while the pandemic initially stalled the initiative, it remains a priority for regional connectivity. Iloilo is home to 500 Koreans and the direct flight would help boost tourism and trade."

Currently, Iloilo International Airport has direct flights to Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, Thailand (via Don Meuang).

To kick off the Dinagyang celebration, Jollibee is welcoming arriving travelers at Iloilo International Airport beginning today (Jan. 23) until Jan. 25 with smiles, surprises, and festive treats. Guests were greeted by Jollibee and Hetty and enjoyed fun giveaways.

The festivities extended across Iloilo as Jollibee stores transformed into lively hubs of Dinagyang spirit. Select branches were dressed with colorful arches, buntings, and energetic air dancers, while digital teasers and creator-led content brought the celebration online, letting even those outside Iloilo feel part of the moment.

From touchdown to takeaway, Jollibee made sure the Dinagyang welcome felt unmistakably joyful, generous, and proudly local.
