The Fisheries Resource Management Division (FRMD) under Fisheries Services headed by the Bangsamoro Director General Sir Pendatun S. Patarasa,MPA of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform held an Orientation on the Conservation and Management of Endemic/Indigenous Species and the Effect of Invasive Species last October 17-19, 2023 at Punta Isla Lake Resort, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
The main objective of the activity is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants in promoting the conservation and sustainable use of endemic/indigenous species and to provide practical guidelines and best practices on how to manage and minimize the effect of the invasive species.
Lake Lanao is the largest fresh body of water in the Province and Capture fishing and Aquaculture venture is one of the primary source of income of the fisherfolks in Lanao del Sur.
The program proper starts with the welcome remarks from the Chief of FRMD, Sir Hairodin T. Arap, RFP. He highlighted the importance of the training. "We are in the midst of a freshwater biodiversity crisis", "We cannot eradicate the invasive species but we can minimize it" he emphasized.
followed by the message of support from the Director II for Fisheries Operations, Sir Macmod D. Mamalangkap, Ph.D.,"Pagtulungan nating maprotektahan ang mga endemic species sa ating mga katubigan" he highlighted.
Lastly, Sir Tunggal U. Kasan,RFP (Aqua II,Inland Resource Management Section IRMS) highlighted the "BASIL" stands for Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa program of the national government that focuses mainly in rehabilitating and restoring of the physical condition of different bodies of water.
The orientation was actively participated by the MAFAR Lanao del Sur Provincial Office headed by the Provincial Director, Atty.Khalid D. Ansano,PABE and the Chief Aquaculturist, Sir Al-Nizar G. Dimaporo, and MAFAR-Balindong Municipal Officer, Engr. Fathma Sohra M. Dimaipung with the collaboration of the Local Government Unit of Lanao del Sur especially the Municipality of Balindong in the active leadership of the Municipal Mayor Hon.Amer-Reggie L. Bagul, Vice Mayor Hon. Benjamin M. Bagul and to LGU-Balindong Agriculture Officer, Ma'am Sitty Ainnah O. Razak.
