BASIC FISHING IN TAGALAG, VALENZUELA 🎣🚴

After years of invitations from Kuya Jon of Larga, I finally joined them for a rainy Saturday morning of fishing in Tagalag, Valenzuela.

Tagalag is known as a fishing area, and it was interesting to see how fishing is part of the local community. Some people even bike to the area with their fishing rods. For some, fishing is a way to catch food for their daily meals. For others, it's a hobby, a skill, and a chance to enjoy the outdoors.

Kuya Jon, Jossel Itto, and Zymer Villabeza shared their fishing stories and taught me the basics: from choosing a rod and bait to learning different techniques. What I enjoyed the most was the waiting game: Will the fish bite the raw pandesal? 🎣😂 It definitely takes patience and practice, but I'm already excited for the next session! 🫣 I also love how Larga combines biking, camping, and fishing. 3 outdoor activities that bring people together and encourage us to explore new hobbies and places.

BasaBike: Stories, Bikes, and Smiles 🚲💛😊

BasaBike started from an idea by Kuya Rey Bufi years ago. Through his BasaVan, he has been traveling to different parts of the Philippines to conduct outreach programs and bring storytelling to children in different communities.

And now, BasaBike has come to life as part of the 5th Anniversary celebration of Valerides! 🥳
As someone who loves bikepacking in the mountains, community immersion, and storytelling projects, I’ve always believed that cycling can be more than just riding.. it can also be a way to give back and create meaningful connections.

Together with Kuya Rey Bufi of Bahaginan Publishing, we brought BasaBike to life and shared stories, books, art, and smiles with the children of Augusto E. Hocson Elementary School in Pagsanjan, Laguna. 💛

70 kids
60 books donated to the schools (DAEHES, FBMS, SES, and CLES)
20 volunteers from different sectors
12 bikers joined the ride
1 school

43 bikepackers joined the Bike Camping 🩷 Friends by PUCHA x Valerides over the weekend! 🚴🏕️

Thank you to everyone who joined, and congratulations to all who finished the ride with smiles despite the challenges along the way. We were all expecting heavy rain, but instead we were treated to a beautiful sunny day! 😆

We hope everyone enjoyed the raw camping experience and learned some basic bikepacking and campsite skills that you can use on your future adventures. 😀
