Everybody keeps asking:
“Why are Black women leaving America?”

Maybe the better question is:
Why are so many highly educated, financially stable Black women no longer convinced America is worth sacrificing their peace, health, and future for?

People call it “running away.”

Maybe choosing global options, lower stress, affordability, and a different quality of life is not radical at all.

Maybe staying stuck in systems that no longer serve us is.

Maybe because we were expected to endure.

Not reposition.

Why Black Women Need an Exit Strategy NOW

This week alone, LinkedIn announced layoffs. Not a struggling startup. Not a company on life support. A major organization sent skilled professionals to the employment line.

And it made me think...

What else need to happened before you create a plan?

We are watching:

• layoffs hit industries once considered safe
• AI reshape careers and purging 100 year profession
• rising gas and everyday living costs squeezing paychecks
• political shifts and redistricting conversations reshape communities and power
• healthcare costs continue climbing
• burnout become normalized
• ageism quietly affect experienced professionals

And somewhere in the middle of all of this, many of us are still carrying everybody else.

Still waiting.

Still telling ourselves:

"When things calm down..."
"Maybe after retirement..."
"Maybe next year..."

Happy Mother’s Day.

This morning I woke up with a heavy heart thinking about the world our daughters are inheriting and the growing attacks on rights, voices, and civic power happening around us.

But then my child called.

Somewhere between “Happy Mother’s Day” and laughter, we found ourselves discussing politics, democracy, accountability, and the responsibility of using your voice. I listened to her speak with passion, awareness, and conviction.

Then she casually said one of her dating requirements is that a man must vote and be politically aware.

Gurlfriend… my heard smiled.

In that moment, I realized something many mothers rarely get to fully see while we are in the middle of pouring into our children:

The fruit.

And for a brief moment, I felt proud knowing maybe I did do something right after all.

To all the mothers raising thoughtful, aware, compassionate humans in complicated times… I see you.
